Uayoe George announced that thiE was the time and place scheduled in
conformance with published notice to conduct a public hearing on the
proposed weed Abatement Progiram for L967, and at which time
objections to the rernoval of "noxious and dangerous weeds and
rubbish" will be heard attd given consideration.
lhere being no protests received by written cofiEnunication and no one
appearing in person to protest said removal, the hearing was declared
closed.
Itlr. Duncan Beardsley, 29 Cabrillo Avenue. questioned whether the
program included the removal of weeds from alleyways at the rear of
residences.
Ihe city Engineer, replying in the negative, advised that thos particular
areas will be sprayed and the cost thereof expended from the General
l'und of the City.
RESOLUTION NO. 1I-67 "Ordering Destruction of Noxious and Dangerousffiisance in the City of Burlingame " was introducedfor passage on motion of Councilman Johnson, seconded by Councilman
Diederichsen and unanimously adopted upon RoII CaIl.

I COMPLETION OF STOR!4 DRAIN I!{PRO\TEMENTS
A cornmunication from the Dilector of Public Works, dated March 1,
1967, advised that Fairley constructors have comp1eted the plans andspecifications and a changre order in fuII agreement lrith a contractfor "stormdrain Improvements - schedule fI - Job No. 66.19" and
recommended that the contract be formally accepted.d
A memo from the City Manager, footnoted on the communication. concurredrrith the recommendation to accept the stormdrain installation acrossthe Southern Padific right-of-hray at carolan Avenue and Toyon Drive.

3. PETTTION FOR STORM DRAI}I il{PROVEIIIENTS
A petition to the City Council, bearing the signatures of nine
property ouners, dated February 8, 1967, requesting improvementa to
provide for the "drainage of storm-produced vrater in the Bayshore
Boulevard area at the erd of BurlingaBe AveDue " was acknowledged.
Ehe City Engineer, in reply to Council inquiry. advised that hisOffice is currently conducting an investigation and a report will
be submitted to Council at the regular neeting on Uarch 20, L967.
4 ORD INANCE REFERENCE RE:.,PAVTNG PARKING STRIPS"
A memo from the City Uanager, dated Uarch 2, 1967, referred to a
eommunication his Office has received from the Park Commission,
suggesting that the lrorda " superintendent of parks " be stricken
from section 11. 04. Io0-Permit nequired for Paving Parking strips"of the Ordinance Code.
ltre City llanager recommended ttrat the subject be fully investigatedfor further report to council.
t{ayor George suggested that the report from the City }tanager indicatethe reasoning of the Park coluflission in suggesting the change.
5. AIIZA-AIRPORT PARK TENTATfVE I.{AP #4 APPROVED
A communication from the city Planner, ated March L, L967, advisedthat the Planning Commiseion, at its regular meeting on February 27,
1957, approved the tentative map of Anza-Airport Park, unit #4,
Subdivision and recommended its acceptance by the city Council.
A tentative map of the subject subdivision \ras presented blr the City
Engineer and revier.red t1z Council.
Councilrnan Martin referred to a proposed fourteen foot planting strip
and his inquiries concerning the maintenance following the landscapingof the area, initiated conEiderable discussion.
fhe City Engineer stated that the Planning Commission approved the
map, including the "strip" and advised that without said "strip" an
additional three feet of right-of-way would be retained b[, the
property owner.
Itre City Planner spokb on the advantages of a planting strip, wherein(1) it would provide a division in the traffic fLow and (2) it
would beautifiz the arear that in his opinion, "anything the city
can do to make it an attractive area, would be in the beEt interestsof ttre City. "
councilman uartin referred to an area in the Burlingarne uanor Sub-division and to "islands" formerly located on Bayswater Avenue wherein
maintenance is and has been a problem.
:Ite City llanager recomnEnded that the tentative map be approved,

subject to further investigation on the issue of the plarting
strip.
A motion was introduced thereafter by Councilman Uartin that thetentative map of the Anza-Airport Park, Unit #4 be approved,with the exception of the street cross section and that further
study be given to this particular phase of the subdivision.
I*re motion was seconded by councilman Diederichsen and unanimously
carrieCl.
6. "PACC' PROPOSAL OPPOSED
A comrmrnication was read from l,!r . John L. !4orril1, 505 Costa Rica
Avenue, San Mateo, urging Council to continue its opposition toplans to fill an extensive area of the Bay as proposed by PAcc.Itre communication was acknowledged and placed on fi1e.

introduced by Councilman Johnson, who moved its passage, seconded
by councilman crosby and unanimously adopted upon Ro1l caIl.

In reply to councilman Diederichsen's inquiry and referring to a
com'nunication received by Council from Mrs. Henry Boos, Peninsula
Garden Study C1ub. the City lt{anager advised that the natter of removj.ngdebris along the Southern Pacifj.c right-of-way would be under dis-
cussion at a meeting with Southern Pacific representatives, with areport to be submitted to Council at the next regular meeting.
An inquiry from !.lrs. Boos through councilman Johns on concerning the
measurements between City property and the right-of-way of the
Southern Pacific Company's property. was referred to the City Engineerfor report to Urs. Boos by friday, !,farch 10, 1967-

councilman Johnson, speaking in favor of correcting several allegedinequities in the salary schedule, advised that a council majority
has indicated a preference to conform with recommendations containedwithin a recent salary survey report and that she wou Id therefore

councilman Johnson moved that funds recelved try the City as a partial
recovery palrment in an Anti-Trust damage action ($2,628.21) betransferred from the ceneral Rrnd to the Library nrnd. Ihe notion

On the question. the City Librarian, in reply to Council, adviEedthat funds wiII be expended to install shelving. necesEary tostore valuable books and library material.
Ttre City Librarian also advised. in reply to lrtayor ceorge's inquiry
concerning a recent robbery attempt, that the Library safe andits contents are insured.
2. SISTER CIT:' COMUITTEE
Councilman Johnson announced that the next meeting of the City'sSister Committee was scheduled lednesday, Uarch'8, L967, 8:00 p.m.
3. REAPPODUTITENT WILLIA!{ RoEsE
Uayor George, referring to a commrnication from the San l{ateo County
Uosquito Abatement District, dated February 8, 1967, submitted the
name of l{r. William Roese, lO19 BayEhore Boulevard, for reappointmentas a member of the San Mateo County lrlosquito Abatement District.
The reappointment was unanimously confirmed by Council.
4.R OTARY CLI'B LIJNCIIEON
It{ayor George referred to a communication received from l.lr. Harry
Sheldon, Program committeee chairman, Rotary Club, complimenting
Council and officials of the City for an informative and interestingreport on the functions of Government at a luncheon meeting on
Uarch l, 1967.
5. COITNCIL-SUPERVISOR L,t NCHEON T,EETING
!{ayor George announced that members of Council would attend a luncheon
sponsored by the San l{ateo County Board of Supervisors, at theHilton Inn, on Traesday, Uarch 7, 1967.
