Councilman Uartin suggested that on an occasion of a request for a continuance from a regularly scheduled public hearing, Council be notified by the proponents in advance. Mr. Cooke explained that ne\"/ problems having arisen \rith respect to Fire Department standards and soil tests, not readily resolved, the applicant, following a conference this morning, reached a decision to request a continuance. ACCEPTANCE SURPLUS PROPERTY OFFERED BY STATE HIGIIWAY DIVISION A communication dated septe ber L6, L97O, fron the city Engineer, advised that the State Division of Highways has declared a small parcel of land adjacent to the south of the City! s sewerage pump station as excess property and has proposed to relinquish the parcel to the City of Burlingrame by grant deed. DELAY fN REIIA!.4ING BROADWAY EXTENSION TO BAYSHORE HIGTIWAY A conmunication was read from David H. Keyston, Executive Vice-President Anza Pacific Corp., dated Septe ber 16, I97O, requesting that Council delay the renaming of the Broadway extension for a period of one month. ilr. Keyston explained that his company is anticipating the re-opening of negotiations with west Bay Associates to acquire an eighty-four foot strip of land necessary to eonnect the extension of Broadrtay to Airport Boulevard . The city Attorney. responding to an inquiry from the Chair, advised that the matter of continuing the subject for reconsideration is within the prerogative of Council . Councilman Martin questioned the advantages to be gained by delaying the renaming of the strip, pointing out that there is the issue of an existing street erith one parcel remaining as yet a "non-dedicated" street. councilman Johnson stated that she was in favor of the street name "Bayshore Highway " terminating at the site of the proposed Ho$rard .Iohnson complex construction and would have no objection to a continuance of the subj ect . 2. Councilman uangini delaying an action and Mayor Crosby each indicated on the renaming of the Broadlray no objection to E><tension. A map was displayed by Mr. Keyston to illustrate the subject and referred particularly to that portion to be negotiated, that west Bay Associates have indicated that an eighty-four strip will be conveyed to the Anza Pacific Corp. TJNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. SISTER CITY (CUERNAVACA) GIFT Irlayor Crosby invited Mr. Paul J. Constantino, member, Sister City Committee, to corunent upon the presentation to the City of a bustof .Tose !,laria !4oreIos, the llexican patriot. Mr. Constantino stated that the gift has been presented to the Burl ingame Lions Club by the Cuernavaca Lions Club and in collaboration with the Park Director, an appropriate design for the base is under RESOLUTIONS ]. . Mr. Constantino advised that he is particularly anxious that it be constructed at least one week in advance of the proposed dedicatj.on date, sunday, October 11, and to coincide with a lr{exican Fiesta celebration p rogrammed in the City of san l.lateo. tlr. constantino's suggestion that it be erected in Cuernavaca Park in Burlingame, initiated discussion on the possibility that it may provoke vandalism at that particular site. Councilman Martin suggested that other sites be considered and that Mr. constantino submit further information to council at the next study meeting. Mr. Constantino gave a brief resume on his attendance as a delegate, representing the city of Burl ingame, at the recent Seventh Annual Mexico-United States Convention i.n Taxco and cornmented upon the enthusiasn displayed particularly by the delegates from Irlexico. Mr. constantino announced that the next annual convention would be held in the City of Oxnard. 2. WATER TBANSMISSION MAIN INSTALLATION councilman Amstrup spoke on the inconvenience experienced in the Burlingame Plaza area by the San Francisco water Department's activities in installing its water transmission mains and his concern when the installations are programmed within the residential areas. SEQUOIA AVENUE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING Councilman Nnstrup requested that the Police Department be encouraged to survey the area of the Sequoia Avenue pedestrian crossing, particularly hazardous now that school has re-opened. 4 SOU1TH LANE-NORTH I"ANE Councilman Mangini recomrnended that the Police Department also investigate traffic conditions that appear hazardous in the Burlingame Avenue, South Lane and North Lane areas. Both issues were referred to Acting Police Captain Nordstrom. 1. Hauser, General Manager, Burlingame Chanber of Commerce, reported that he had been informed that a vacant store on Burlingame Avenue (Parking District proposed accessway) has been under lease for the past several months and will soon be occupied.
