BUDGET 197I-I97 2
Announc.ing that the purpose of the meeting was to consider the
proposed budget for the current fiscal year, Mayor Amstrup invited
Councilman Martin, Budget Chairman, to initiate the discussion.
Councilman Martin suggested Council's consideration first to
the report dated August 30, 1971, wherein certain changes were
recommended in the preliminary budget submitted by the City
Manager. A memorandum acompanying the report acknowledged
assistance from l4ayor Amstrup in evaluating departmental requests
and cooperation evidenced by the City Manager and department
heads in attempting to present an austere budget, resulting in
proposed expenditures $30,130.00 less than expenditures
for the prior year; it r,ra s pointed out that, including all of
the proposed revisions, total budget expenditure for l97l-72
will be $4,479,891.00, that the city's assessed valuation
was increased substantially by reason of the recent re-assessment
and that, in an effort to alleviate the burden of an increase in
taxes that would fol1ow an increase in assessment, it was Proposedthat the tax rate be reduced 10Q to a total rate of 51.15.
Revisions to the preliminary budget were discussed and unanimously
approved on a motion introduced by Councilman Crosby and seconded
by Councilman Mangini.

Following a five minute recess, Mayor Amstrup called the meeting to
order at 8:3 0 p.m.

submitted by Councilman Martin and was joined by fel1ow-councilmen
