a. Burlingame Pickleball Updates and Modification to Line One Tennis Court with
Four Pickleball Courts
Recreation Manager Acquisti gave some background on the item. On May 20, 2021, the Parks and
Recreation Commission approved the addition of one Pickleball court on each of the four tennis
courts at Washington Park, resuming the fee -based drop -in program on Mondays and Wednesdays
from 10 am — 1 pm, and exploring the use of The Burlingamer for indoor play.
On June 17, 2021, the Parks and Recreation Commission modified the number of Pickleball courts
on the Washington Tennis Courts due to additional community input and staff research to lining
two Washington Park Tennis Courts with two Pickleball courts each. The lining was scheduled
for August 23, 2021.

APPROVED Minutes August 19, 2021
Since that time, staff has continued to receive input from the Pickleball community, with the
majority requesting four Pickleball court lines added to Washington Park Tennis Court 1. Staff
consulted with the U.S. Pickleball representatives and confirmed that four Pickleball court lines
would fit on Washington Park Tennis Court 1. Staff requested that the Commission approve the
change.
Staff also provided an update about the use of The Burlingamer. Due to "dead spots" on most of
the courts, staff and Pickleball players decided that the facility was not optimal due to the quality
of play and discontinued the program.
The fee -based drop -in program is scheduled to resume on August 25 after Tennis Court 1 has been
lined for Pickleball.
Chair Ardito opened up the public comments section.
Jack Elward thanked the Commission for all their work to make Pickleball more accessible to the
community.
Ardito asked if Commission had any further questions. There were none.
