CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Burlingame City Council was held on the
above date in the City HaI1 Council Chambers. l4eeting was called
to order at B:10 P.I'i. by Mayor Will-iam J. Crosby.

Councilwoman Barton nominated Vice-ltlayor Irving S. Amstrup for
Mayor, seconded by Councilman Martin. Councilman Mangini moved
the nominations be closed and the City Clerk instructed to cast
a unanimous ballot in favor of Vice-Mayor Amstrup.
Mayor Crosby announced nomj-nations would be accepted for the
office of Vice-Mayor. Mayor Crosby nominated Councilman R.
D. Martin for Vice-Mayor, seconded by Councilwoman Barton.
Councilman Mangini moved nominations be closed and the City Clerk
instructed to cast a unanimous ballot in favor of Councilman
I{artin.
Former Mayor Crosby congratulated. both newly elected officers.
He thanked his colleagues on the Council, staff, and all City
employees. He introduced his wife and voiced appreciation of her
help and patience.
Mayor Amstrup praised ex-it[ayor Crosby's leadership during the
past year with its unusual problems and presented him with a
plaque on behalf of the City.
l4ayor Amstrup then introduced his farnily, which included four
generations present, and praised their support. At B:15 P.M.
he declared a recess for a brief congratulatory period for family
and friends of Council members, after which meeting resumed.

4. SHERATON HOTEL VARIANCE: REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF TIt/tE
City Attornel' re'rierved his report of March 1, 1979 rvhich statedthis variance would expire on March 20, 1-979 and that participantsin this project are stilI desirous of constructing it and havecontributed money to the Cit1z. However, iegal and other problems
have delayed implementation. City Attorney reconrmended extensionof varj-ance for 120 days.
Councj-l had no objection. Mayor Amstrup stated variance woulo
be extended for 120 days.
Counciiman iviartin reguested that record show he had not partici-
pated in the dj-scussion.

February L6, L979 from insurance consultant recommending denial of
the claim of Robert Ford as doubtful tiability. City Attorney con-

Mayor Amstrup opened public hearing on this ordinance. There
was no comment from the audience, and the public hearing was
declared closed.

City Attorney explained this ordinance provides for installation
of smoke detectors in new homes, apartments and hotels; and upon
sale of or alterations or repairs in excess of $500 for existing
construction. Added provisions for hotels in certain areas of the
City are included.

of San Mateo/Burlingame Board of Realtors. There was no
comment and public hearing was declared closed.

Mayor Amstrup proclaimed the week of March 12 through March 23,
1979 as KQED week.
Mayor Amstrup expressed condolence of Council for former Mayor
Harrison in the accident to his son.

Mayor Amstrup introduced Mrs. Charlotte Johson, former Mayor and
