HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 012-2021DocuSign Envelope ID: 6DAADA1D-9380-4C9E-BC43-58B1AFAD798E RESOLUTION NO. 012-2021 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME AUTHORIZING THE CITY'S PARTICIPATION IN THE AGE -FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES NETWORK WHEREAS, by 2030, 25 percent of the county's population will be 65 years or older; and WHEREAS, in 2005, the World Health Organization (WHO) developed the concept of Global Age -Friendly Cities to help cities implement policies and services to help older adults live healthy and vibrant lives as they age; and WHEREAS, on July 10, 2018, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors authorized the County to join the WHO's Age -Friendly Global Network, established the San Mateo County Age - Friendly Initiative, and authorized and selected the Center for Age -Friendly Excellence (CAFE) at the Los Altos Community Foundation to assist with this effort; and WHEREAS, the process to be designated an Age -Friendly Certified City or Community includes: identifying a task force with various stakeholders to oversee the process; conducting a series of focus groups to assess the baseline "age -friendliness" of a city or community in the domains mentioned above; reviewing focus group feedback and survey results; measuring progress in action plan implementation; and completing the Age -Friendly application, which requires a letter of intent signed by the Mayor; and WHEREAS, there are currently six age -friendly cities in San Mateo County, and on February 23, the Board of Supervisors will vote on adding three more cities to the program, including Burlingame; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors will utilize Measure K monies to fund CAFE to work with Burlingame and two additional cities to become age -friendly cities, and Burlingame staff will be needed as a resource during this endeavor, working on the task force and assisting CAFE by recommending community members and nonprofit organizations that may be helpful during this process.
