The regular meeting of the Burlingame Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by
Chairman Don Roberts at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall Conference Room A.

MINUTES
The nvnutes of the April 20, 1995 meeting of the Commission were approved as submitted.
INTRODUCTION OF NEW COMMISSIONER
Chairman Roberts introduced newly appointed Commissioner Ed Larios and welcomed him to the
Comnssion.
OLD BUSINESS
Appointment of New Youth Advisory Commissioners. Director Williams stated that few
applications had been received. All Commissioners were urged to be on the lookout for
possible candidates. Commissioner Larios indicated that he could assist in recruiting
young people. Williams will get copies of the application packet to Commissioner Larios.
2. Teen Programs.
Williams reported that the after school fitness class for teens has been completed for the
spring session and all activities for teens were now clearly marked in the summer
recreation brochure. The number of activities open to teen participation is extensive.
COMMISSIONER ARRIVAL. Commissioner Nyhan arrived at 7:40 p.m.
3. Toyzether We Can Make a Difference Report. Williams reported that plans are moving
ahead for a team of approximately young people, adults and seniors to meet in the first
�,. Burlingame workshop, July 23-25.
4. Girls Softball use of Ray Park. Williams presented a letter from the Burlingame Girls
Softball League regarding the use of Ray park on weekends. The Commission asked
Williams to setup a meeting with the 1995-96 league Board of Directors at the October 19
meeting of the Commission in order to discuss field use.
All league play, makeups and playoffs should be completed by Sunday, May 21. All
remaining tournament games are scheduled for the high school softball fields. No more
weekend games are anticipated at Ray Park for the 1995 season.
5. Review of Capital Project Priority List. Staff presented two breakdowns of capital project
lists by type and by year for the Commission's consideration. Commissioners requested
that staff return for the June Commission meeting with another list for the Commission's
review.
Commissioner Larios discussed the cooperative projects that the City has funded for
Burlingame High School. It was agreed that Larios, Director Quadri and Williams will
meet with the high school administration and Larios to discuss future projects and the
maintenance of athletic facilities.
6. Review of Ray and Burlingame Village Parks Playground Equipment. Quadri presented
the plans and descriptions of the playground equipment recommended by the special
review committee for installation at Ray and Burlingame Village Parks. The special
review committee was comprised of Commissioners Henderson and Nyhan, Assistant
Park Director Tim Richmond, Recreation Supervisor Lynn Mutto, Mother's Club
representative Jan Stewart, and Mills -Peninsula Hospital representative Chris Baughman.
Quadri reviewed the process and described the various options and vendors reviewed by
the Committee. Quadri and the Committee recommend that the proposal from Ross
Recreation Company for the installation of Landscape Structure playground equipment at
Ray Park and Burlingame Village Park. Inasmuch as the total of the equipment purchase
and installation is less than $75,000, no further approval is needed.
It was the consensus of the Commission to concur with staff and the special committee
on the purchase and installation of the playground equipment for Ray and
Burlingame Village Parks as described above.
Chairman Robert expressed thanks to the committee on behalf of the Commission and
stated his hope that the City Council would commend the Committee for its work on
behalf of the City of Burlingame.

NEW BUSINESS
There was no new business.
REPORTS
1. Park Director. Director Quadri had no news to report. He presented Commissioners with
copies of the proposed 1995-96 Park Department budget, as presented to the City
Manager.
2. Recreation Director. Director Williams reported that:
a. The 25th Anniversary edition of Art in the Park is scheduled for June 10 and 11 in
Washington Park.
b. Summer registration will take place at the recreation Center on Saturday, May 20.
C. Williams presented Commissioners with copies of the proposed 1995-96
Recreation Department budget, as presented to the City Manager.
3. Commissioners. There were no reports from Commissioners.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:38 p.m. by Chairman Roberts.
