Starting from ground zero is never easy, but, under the direction of Recreation Supervisor, Tricia Pinney, things are well underway. Below is a summary of their progress. Chrissy is working closely with the students and student advisors at Burlingame High School and has made contact with students and administrators at Mercy and Mill high schools. She meets with a teen activities group twice a month at the Depot (in order to brainstorm new ideas) and has met with BHS' leadership class a few times this semester. Chrissy has also attends monthly meetings with teen coordinators and supervisors from other cities to discuss which programs they have found to be successful. Only one activity has been conducted so far, a Teen Picnic & Car Show. Although the picnic attendance was very low, we had 8 participants and a sponsor (3M Automotive Aftercare) for the Car Show. The event will be attempted again in the Spring, then with more time to plan and publicize. Much of her time is being spent on planning activities for the Winter and Spring months. Some upcoming trips include Laser Quest in Mountain View, Rock Climbing and a one -day ski trip. Chrissy and Tricia have also started planning several classes for the Spring recreation brochure (computers, ballroom dance, art, etc.). Other activities being considered are: an after -school intramural program, Friday night activities, Summer Teen Club, teen dances, and more trips. Attached are a couple of flyers Chrissy and Tricia developed along with a rough draft of the Teen page for the Spring brochure (more specifics will be included).
