Dear Scott:
Congratulations! Last night the City Council unanimously appointed you as a Youth Advisory
Member of the Park & Recreation Commission. I am sorry that, what with the three day weekend
and not being able to reach you yesterday, I was not able to alert you to the fact that your
appointment was to be considered last night. The good news is that it sailed right through and
now your appointment is official.
Ilopefully, you will be able to attend the next regular meeting of the Commission -- 7:00 p.m.,
Thursday, July 15. 1 will be mailing out agenda packets to you and all other Commissioners this
weekend. At his point, I would not expect that there will be a Commission meeting in August
unless some new major item of business comes up in the next few weeks. I expect the September
16 meeting to be held, as scheduled.
Since you attended the June meeting, you do have some idea of how the Commission does its
business. If you have any specific questions about the Commission or your (Julies, I)lease IM tine
to give Randy Schwartz or me a call.
look forward to seeing you next week.
Sincerely,
Joh&W. Williams

Why do you want to be a youth member of the Park and Recreation Commission?
The Parks and Recreation Department in BUI-ling.niie is a very iuiportaut part of the cite. It directly
affects the lives of Burliugarne's residents —after all, nearly every Burlingame resident has at some
point visited a public place such as a city park or attended an event or special class sponsored by the
Burlingame Parks and Recreation. Because the Parks and Recreation affects so mauty fives. I believe it
is important for the commission to represent different interests, including those of' the youth of
Burlingane. `1-he youth of Burlingame makes up a sizable portion of the population, and thus needs a
voice —one that will be heard and respected. I strongly believe the Park and Recreation Cbtttirtission is
all effective place to express the views and interests of youth. As a youth conttnissioner to the Parks
and Recreatiou Cornnussiou, I believe I could represent these views and interests of' all of the youth of
Burlingame.
What do you think you could contribute to the Park and Recreation Commission?
I hope that I can serve as the link between the youth of Burlingame and the Park attct Recreatiou
Conlmission. I want to be able to answer questions the adult members of the Conimissiou have
relating to Burlingame's youth. iks such, I hope to Delp the Commission active at conclusions that will
be beneficial to both the youth and the Parks and Recreation Department. I also hope to contribute my
own ideas and suggestions to the topics being discussed. Because I would represent the youth of'
Burlingarne as opposed to the Parks and Recreation. Commission, I believe my views would ad([
insight to the discussions and be helpful in creating new perspectives. I hope that the advice that I
would provide could help the Commission to make wiser, shrewder decisions.
