Diana Warden has already been appointed as one Youth Advisory Commissioner for the year 1999-2000. Scott should be considered for the second position. Both terms will expire on June 30, 2000. I am familiar with Scott from his work with Burlingame Together and am pleased to recommend him for your consideration. I believe that Scott would be an excellent addition to your Commission. Scott has been invited to attend your meeting on June 24, 1999. After Commissioners have met Scott and asked him any questions they wish to ask, it would be appropriate to formally recommend that the City Council appoint him, if that is the wish of your Commission. attachments: Application and resume I — CITY OF BURLINGAME PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION YOUTH COMMISSIONER CANDIDATE APPLICATION (Please type or print clearly) NOTE: All applicants must be residents of the City of Burlingame Position is held from September to June The youth commissioners advise the Park and Recreation Commission on matters relating to the youth and teen population within the City of Burlingame. " Miscellaweo over 11 Why do you want to be a youth member of the Park and Recreation Commission? 164 The Parks and Recreation Department in Burlingame is a very important part of the city. It directly affects the lives of Burlingame's residents —after all, nearly every Burlingame resident has at some point visited a public place such as a city park or attended an event or special class sponsored by the Burlingame Parks and Recreation. Because the Parks and Recreation affects so many lives, I believe it is important for the commission to represent different interests, including those of the youth. of Burlingame. Uie youth of Burlingame makes up a sizable portion of the population, and thus needs a voice —one that will be heard and respected.. I strongly believe the Park and Recreation Commission is an effective place to express the views and interests of youth. As a youth commissioner to the Parks and Recreation Commission, I believe I could represent these views and interests of all of the youth of Burlingame. What do you think you could contribute to the Park and Recreation Commission? I hope that I can serve as the link between the youth of Burlingame and the Park and Recreation Commission. I want to be able to answer questions the adult members of the Commission have relating to Burlingame's youth. As such, I hope to help the Commission arrive at conclusions that will `le be beneficial to both the youth and the Parks and Recreation Department. I also hope to contribute my own ideas and suggestions to the topics being discussed. Because I would represent the youth of Burlingame as opposed to the Parks and Recreation. Commission, I believe my views would add insight to the discussions and be helpful in creating new perspectives. I hope that the advice that I would provide could help the Commission to make wiser, shrewder decisions. Williams, Parks & Recreation Director Ir Official Naming of Facilities at Bayside Park On Monday n}ght, June 7, 1999, the City Council officially accepted the recommendations of the Park & Recreation Commission and named the facilities at Bayside Park and the former landfill as follows. In the future, please use these names in dealing with the public and in communicating with other City staff members and contractors. I would also ask that all signs prepared for installation at Bayside Park in the future be prepared with these names: Bayside Park. All of the existing Bayside Park and the Upper and Lower Deck areas of the former Landfill will collectively be known as Bayside Park in the future, once construction in the area is complete. Amenities at Bayside Park. (Think of the first three like "3COM Park at Candlestick Point." For example: Burlingame Soccer Center at Bayside Park.) • Golf driving range to be named Burlingame Golf Center. • Soccer field to be named Burlingame Soccer Center. • Dog Exercise Park to be named Burlingame Dog Exercise Park. • Three existing and one soon to be constructed ballfields to be named Bayside, 1, 2, 3, 4. • Existing lighted soccer field (within ballfields 3 and 4) to be named Bayside Soccer Eield.
