Chairman Nilmeyer was absent due to a death in the family and former Vice Chairman Frank Kelly is no longer a member of the Commission. The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Acting Chairman Ed Larios at 7:00 p.m. in Conference Room A, Burlingame City Hall. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Dittman, Heathcote, Larios, Minderman, Muller, Piccetti, Youth Advisory Commissioner Warden Commissioners Absent: Chairman Nilmeyer, Youth Advisory Commissioner Lip Staff Present: Parks & Recreation Director John Williams, Recreation Superintendent Randy Schwartz Others Present: None MINUTES Minutes of the January 21, 1999 meeting were approved, as presented. COMMENTS FROM PUBLIC There were no comments from the public. OLD BUSINESS Teen Blue Ribbon Study Committee Appointments. Commissioner Piccetti reported on the February 16 joint meeting of the Teen Blue Ribbon Study Committee with the Burlingame Together leadership group. The two groups are jointly planning the teen workshop scheduled for the Doubletree Hotel on March 6, 1999. Commissioners Piccetti and Heathcote plan to attend the workshop. The new Teen Coordinator is also expected to attend. 2. Discussion of Commission C.I.P. Priority List. At the request of staff, this agenda item was postponed to the March Commission meeting. NEW BUSINESS Discussion of Annual Election of Commission Officers. The Commission agreed to conduct the annual reorganization of the Commission at its March meeting. REPORTS 1. Capital Improvement Project Updates. A. Landfill & Bayside Park Projects. Director Williams updated Commissioners on the golf driving range and soccer field construction currently underway. Commissioners were also updated on Lower Deck Landfill closure and development plans, Dog Exercise Park approval processes and on the selection of the Golf Range Operator. B. Burlingame Aquatic Center. Director Williams updated the Commission on the status of the Burlingame Aquatic Center demolition and construction. He indicated that demolition work should start within two weeks. A September opening of the pool complex is expected. C. BYBA Batting Cage in Washinglon Park. The project has still not been completed. D. Cuernavaca Park Shade Structure Demolition. Design of the new retaining wall and interim improvements has been completed. This project will move ahead after the rainy season. E. J Lot Playground Renovation. Williams reported that improvement plans and specifications were nearing completion. The project should be out to bid soon. E. Laguna Park Playground Renovation. The advisory committee will meet with staff and the project architect soon to begin the tot lot improvement process. Commissioners Larios and Piccetti will serve on the playground advisory committee. F. Village Park Cottage Renovation and Addition. Schwartz reported that bids for this project will be opened on March 5, 1999. 2. Parks Division Report. Director Williams stated that the Parks Division staff has begun work to prepare ballfields for spring baseball and softball programs. 3. Recreation Division Report. Recreation Superintendent Schwartz reported that Spring Recreation activities and classes are now underway. Summer program planning has begun. 4. Commissioner Reports. There were no Commissioner reports. There being no further business to come before the Commission, Acting Chairman Larios adjourned the meeting at 7:39 p.m. Submitted, Jo ii W.
