The Burlingame Shoreline Cleanup Day is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, Sept. 15. Volunteers are encouraged. The event includes food and raffle prizes for participants. 2. New employee, Ed Lorenzo, began working with the Bayside crew. 3. The Tree Crew completed its current grid section and is now working south of Oak Grove, east of Carolan. 4. 2001-`02 pruning contractor will be Timberline Tree Service of Burlingame. 5. Trenton Park Playground bids were opened and the recommendation will go to Council on September 5. 6. Bids are out for a single species (ornamental pear) tree planting contract on the west side of California Drive, south of Broadway. 7. Crews are doing minor spot seeding on fields during the brief break between the Summer programs/leagues/camps and the start of soccer season. Recreation Division 1. Aquatics Over 90% of classes were filled. 839 more recreation and lap swimmers than last year. 2. Teens 34 preteens for overnight campout in Washington Park. Y.A.C. raised $1,100 from Music in the Park barbecues. 3. Preschool Summer classes were full with waiting lists. 4. Seniors Friday drop -in continues to average 40 seniors per day. 30 seniors attended a trip to the Culinary Academy. 5. Youth Recreation Camps were held at three sites, with good attendance. 6. Sports Basketball had 15 teams, 35+ soccer 12, new D7 softball league. Hosted ASA girls 10 regional championships — 16 teams. Youth Summer Basketball League had 300 boys & girls. 7. Special Events Successfully conducted 5 Music in the Park concerts.
