HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - BC - 1982.06.03BURLINGAME BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION JUNE 3, 1982 The regularly scheduled Burlingame Beautification Commission meeting was called to order Thursday, June 3, 1982, at 7:30 P.M. in the City Hall by Chairman Bowling. ROLL CALL Present: Chairman Bowling, Commissions Bacon, Disco, Hagstrom, Levy, Perry, and Park Director Quadri. Absent: Commissioner Carbon (excused) MINUTES The May 6 minutes should be corrected under Commissioner Perry's re- port to read: "Mr. Ratto from P.G.&E.'s Joint Pole Authority ." Minutes were approved as corrected. CORRESPONDENCE Letter from the Garden Study Club of the Peninsula with $2,000 dona- tion toward the tree program in conjunction with the Saratoga Horti- cultural Society. (5/6/82) Copy of letter sent to Commissioner Perry from Larry Ratto (District Customer Services Supervisor) of P.G.&E. re unsightly pole in the Fragrance Garden at Washington Park. (5/12/82) Copy of letter to Evelyn Harper of the Garden Study Club from Director Quadri conveying his "sincere appreciation for the generous $2,000 contribution to our tree program." (5/12/82) Copy of letter to George Gurs from Director Quadri (with accompany- ing Landscape Award plaque) congratulating him on the excellence in landscape design and maintenance of the 401 Primrose Road building. *Copy of letter from Mr. Graeme Thomson re the "less than desirable qualities" of the Sycamore trees. (5/25/82) Agenda for the June 9, 1982 Regional Planning Committee Litter Control Advisory Committee. (Also minutes of the May 12, 1982 Regional Plan- ning Committee). *The letter from Graeme Thomson concerning "the less than desirable qualities " and "a planned program for tree replacement" for the Sycamore trees in Burlingame was discussed. The commission took Mr. Thomson's comments under advisement and directed Director Quadri to send a letter to Mr. Thomson stating such. REPORTS Commissioner Hagstrom Commissioners Hagstrom and Levy conducted the last of the Clean Campus inspections. Burlingame Intermediate School won the last inspection and will fly the flag for the remainder of the school year. Chairman Bowling recommended a letter be sent to both schools commending their efforts. w Director Quadri Durin the last windstorm the Citylost 2 Hawthorn trees; one breaking the win ow of a parked car. '%� Director Quadri informed the commission that his vacation will be June 28 - July 2 and he will be unable to attend the July Beautification Commission meeting. Several commissioners indicated they would also be unable to attend the July meeting. Due to the circumstances it was moved, seconded, and carried unanimously that the July Burlingame Beautification Commission be cancelled. Some work has been done on the Fra rance Garden. Some annuals have been planted. Washington Park,includin9 t e Fragrance Garden, is cared for by one maintenance person and until some summer crews are added,only a little more time can be spent on the Fragrance Garden. Money from contributions is available for expansion of the garden. NEW BUSINESS The nominating committee resented the slate of officers; Chairman-- et Bowling; vice -C airman--Mi re Hagstrom; an ecretary--Mildred Disco. It was moved, seconded, and carried that the slate of officers presented be accepted unanimously. Director Quadri reported that a Heritage tree at 1604 Easton is dead_ and requests that it be removed. Commissioner Levy moved that the tree be removed. The motion was carried unanimously. Chairman Bowling appointed the nominating committee for the 1982 Land- scape Award. Commissioners Levy, Disco, and Perry will present a list of candidates for the award at the August commission meeting. The com- mission will vote on which commercial property is to be awarded at the September commission meeting. Meeting was adjourned by Chairman Bowling at 8:38 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Chester E.
