The regularly scheduled Burlingame Beautification Commission meeting
was called to order Thursday, May 6, 1982, at 7:35 p.m. in the City
Hall by Chairman Bowling.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairman Bowling, Commissioners Bacon, Disco, Hagstrom,
Perry, Carbon, and Park Director Quadri.
Absent: Commissioner Levy (excused)
MINUTES
The minutes of the April 1, 1982 meeting were approved as submitted.
CORRESPONDENCE
Spring 1982 - Vol. 4, No. 1/CAW (Californians Against Waste) Waste
Watcher re articles on laws to combat waste and litter in California.
REPORTS
Commissioner Hagstrom
The April Clean Campus inspection was done after the Easter vacation.
Taylor Intermediate won the April competition. The May inspection
will conclude this year's competition. Commissioner Hagstrom sug-
gested that next years contest start in September and the Clean Cam-
pus committee be chosen in August.
John Wilms of the Millbrae Beautification Commission requested that
Burlingame and Millbrae have a ,joint Garden eminar. The Burlingame
commission agreed and will be notifying Millbrae's commission prior
to the planning of the seminar.
Commissioner Hagstrom presented a check in the amount of $2,000 from
the Garden Stu y u of t o Peninsula _. 1he donation is to be esig-
nated for the tree program with the Saratoga Horticulture Foundation,
with emphasis on Burlingame's northern entrance on E1 Camino.
Commissioner Perry
Mr. Raffo from P G &E 's Joint Pole Authority was very receptive to
the problem of the unsightly pole in the Fragrance Garden. His main
concern was the safety hazard the guy wires could cause for a blind
person. Mr. Raffo indicated to Commissioner Perry that he would fur-
ther investigate.
Commissioner Disco
The trash near the S.P. tracks near Murchison has finally been removed.
The Resource Rally picniseemed to be a success and Ron Weaver was
pleased with the litter c cleanup. Over 200 people participated in
the days event.

Commissioner Carbon
Commissioner Carbon suggested that next year the litter cleanup day
should be coordinated so as not to conflict with other events, i.e.,
the Walk-a-thon was the day after the El Camino Sweep.
Director Quadri
Director Quadri will contact the Boutique & Villager re the $2000
donation from the Garden Study Club of the Peninsula.
The Landscape Award and a letter of congratulations will be sent to
Mr. George Gurs of Anco Properties for the design and landscape main-
tenance of the Wright Company building on Primrose Road in Burlingame.
Director Ouadri reported that it was difficult gettinq Burlingame peo-
ple involved in this years Resource Rally; timing and scnedu ling or
the events and lack of publicity were probably the biggest problem.
Director Quadri reported on the tree losses of the last storm,to the
commission.
NEW BUSINESS
Commissioner Bacon su ested the Landsca in Award Committee be cho-
sen soon so t e award can be given to the recipient at the Community
Dinner in October.
