From: Ray Wagner, Director of Recreation
Re: Park Picnic Maximum Attendance Policy
The Park and Recreation Departments are requesting a policy be
established to limit the permitting of Washington Park for picnic
permits to groups of 150 or less.
Currently there are three groups that hold company picnics in Wash-
ington Park that exceed the proposed maximum. They are:
Peninsula Hospital 1000 participants
Mills Hospital 600 participants
Feiler Brothers 11fg. 250 participants
Because of the size of these picnics and the small park and picnic
facilities, these groups rent the entire Recreation Center for their
employees entertainment and convenience.
The impact on both the park and the Recreation Center has grown to
the point where it is causing the following problems:
1. No park availability for residents.
2. Crowded parking in neighborhood bordering the park.
3. Heavy use of park causing extra maintenance the few
days following picnic.
4. The indoor/outdoor use of the Recreation Center causes
extreme custodial and maintenance load on the building,
(bathrooms, carpets, kitchen, halls).
If the Commission has no objections to the establishment of this
policy, the three groups that have used our facilities in the past will
be informed immediately so they will be able to make plans for a regional
park, (Coyote Point, etc.) for their 1985 picnic.
