APPROVED Meeting Minutes
Regular Meeting on Thursday, November 21, 2019
1. CALL TO ORDER
The duly noticed regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called
to order by Chair Milne at 7:02 pm at the Burlingame Community Center, 850 Burlingame Ave,
Burlingame.

Commissioner Ardito made a motion to approve the September 19, 2019 minutes. The motion
was seconded by Commissioner Lewis and was approved. 6-0-1 (Pappajohn not present).

7. NEW BUSINESS
a. Presentation: Recreation Intern — Danielle Van Dalsem
Recreation Intern Van Dalsem introduced herself to the Commission and gave a list of the
projects she has been working on in the Department. She has been working on the Department
Branding Committee and the Parks Maintenance Map. The Branding Committee developed
ideas for how to brand the Department to the community under the areas of logo, color scheme,
apparel, tone, email signature, signage and digital communication. The goal was to create unity

among Department staff and create a brand that accurately represented the Department to the
public. The process included compiling information received from internal department surveys.
The Parks Maintenance Project utilized a program called ARC/GIS mapping to update the
current hard copy map of maintenance areas covered by the Parks Division such as athletic
facilities, city facilities, city parks, tot lots, restrooms, city fields, parking lots, open space areas,
medians, islands, bio-swales and Caltrans areas.
Van Dalsem expressed appreciation for all the individuals she had the opportunity to work with
during her internship with the City of Burlingame Parks & Recreation Department.
b. Presentation: Youth Advisory Committee
Recreation Coordinator Roman introduced himself and stated he was here tonight in place of
Nicole Rath Houghton who oversees the YAC group and he noted there are several members of the
Committee present at the meeting to update the Commission on the yearly activities. He reported the
Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) members recommend that the Parks and Recreation
Commission review the 2019-20 YAC calendar and provide suggestions for additional
events/tasks.
The YAC members provided the following information. The YAC will be hosting, participating,
and partnering in a series of events that serve a variety of purposes, including fundraising for the
Youth Scholarship Fund and YAC Fund, as well as partnering with other City departments such
as Library and Community Development. YAC fundraising provides the funding necessary to
put on events, purchase materials and attend trainings. YAC members also outreach to the
Burlingame community throughout the year by participating in events like the Pet Parade and
working alongside Moms Against Poverty wrapping gifts.
Commission thanked the group for the wealth of information and congratulated them on all the
project they will be working on during the school year.
8. STAFF AND COMMISSIONER REPORTS
a. Parks & Recreation Department Reports
Acquisti reported the following Department event dates: Dec 3 winter session registration
begins, Dec 6 at 5 pm is the Holiday Tree Lighting, Dec 10 at 10:30 am is the ribbon cutting of
the new Washington Park Playground, Sport court and picnic area, and Dec 18 at 2 pm is the
ribbon cutting for the new Bayside Trail Fitness Equipment.
b. Commissioners Reports
Commissioner Lewis assisted at the Fall Fest and loved the experience.
Commissioner Lee also enjoyed the Fall Fest and being a judge at the Pet Parade.
Chair Milne reported on attending the Bike/Pedestrian Master Plan meeting, the El Camino Real
Improvements meeting, and the Broadway Overpass meeting.

10. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 pm.
The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday,
December 19, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Burlingame Community Center.
