Installed over what appears to have been a patio cover, which over the years has been developed into an occupied room. The roof is flat with 3 others portions of the house roof transporting rain water to this roof. In addition a portion of this roof butts into a rough brick fireplace. This creates a design which with a hot mop built up roof would be hard to prevent leaks. The framing for the roof is 4" x 4" even size lumber which is not designed for horizontal framing. A Building Permit #N-927 was issued for an addition in March 1964. The permit states a family room and new bathroom. I feel this permit could not have covered this portion of the house. The code would not have allowed this roof framing and type of roof as the structure would not support the weight of a fireman and fiberglass roofing has only been permitted on patio covers and detached structures. To recapitulate, I understand the City may take a long term approach with respect to tree replacement within the city and there is interest as to whether PGandE .. would participate monetarily if PGandE's direct tree trimming costs were reduced by the installation of shorter trees. Please note, we're certainly interested and I would like a formal request, with any specifics if available, addressed to my office for further review. Please don't hesitate to call me if you or any members of your board questions or concerns regarding tree trimming or any other facet of My office telephone number is 592-9200, ext. 451. Thank you again for your time and interest with this mutual concern. Sincerely, David Altscher Area Manager cc: Mr. Richard P. QUADRI - DIRECTOR OF PARKS RE: BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION ON P.G.&E. LINE CLEARANCE As requested by Council the Beautification Commission has con- sidered the matter of tree pruning for line clearance and its effect on our community. The Commission's study over the last 3 months considered the overall impact on our tree program, with a special emphasis on Sycamores. The various options I had submitted to Council were used as a starting point, but several other options were discussed. Chairman Carbon and I met with David Altscher of P.G.&E. to ex- plore several alternative solutions. Undergrounding of all utility lines would cost approximately $125 per foot in resi- dential areas, and would require new service connections at each house. With the time and money involved, this was felt to be an impractical solution. We then discussed the possi- bility of a long term replacement program for trees which inter- fere with primary utility lines. Both the Commission and P.G.&E. have expressed an interest in this approach, and, if Council de- sires, I will explore this further. The Commission's final recommendation to Council is that the Park Department continue its current method of sycamore pruning on a 4 year cycle; that P.G.&E. continue its current practice with close monitoring by the Park Department; and that the City explore a long range replacement program with P.G.&E for those trees which interfere with primary power lines. The motion was passed unanimously. Richard P. Quadri Director of Parks '1 N O T I C E PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING * PERSHING PARK HEARING * AUGUST 15, 1985 - 7:30 P.M. COUNCIL CHAMBERS '1
