Guests
Mrs. Frank MacIlroy, 440 Bloomfield; (Grandson) Eric Fischer; and (neighbors)
Victoria and Dalton Moyer. Carl Hagstrom.
To accomodate the guests, the request for tree removal at 440 Bloomfield was
discussed at this time.
Tree removal/440 Bloomfield - Mrs. MacIlroy explained the contents of her let-
ter submitted to the Park Dept. and then to the Commission. Seeds from the tree
drop and clog gutter; water runs over onto flat, fiberglass roof causing water
to cascade over the fireplace inside the room. Mrs. MacIlroy's grandson indi-
cated that he hascleaned out gutters on several occasions. Letter submitted
from Mr. Corson, 631 Plymouth (actual address where tree is located), supports
Mrs. MacIlroy's request stating "it is a beautiful tree, but in reality for
those of us who have to live with it day in and day out it is a messy incon-
venience." In answer to Director Quadri's question, Mrs. MacIlroy indicated
that the addition was built in the late 1950's and the tree was planted about
10 years earlier. The problem with the gutters overflowing and the roof leak-
ing did not occur until several years ago when the tree grew large enough to
cause a problem. Director Quadri indicated he would ask the City's engineer to
inspect the roof. Commission will inspect and will make a decision based on the
engineer's and their inspection. A decision will be rendered at the August 1,
1985 Commission meeting.
MINUTES Minutes of the June 6, 1985 meeting were approved as submitted.
CORRESPONDENCE
Letter from Mrs. MacIlroy, 440 Bloomfield Rd., requesting removal of a silver
maple (located at 631 Plymouth); seeds drop and clog gutters causing water to
cascade over the fireplace inside the room.
Letter submitted at Commission meeting of July 11, 1985 from James H. Corson,
resident at 631 Plymouth, supporting Mrs. MacIlroy's request for removal of
silver maple because the tree is a "messy inconvenience".
REPORTS

OLD BUSINESS
P.G.&E. Trimming of Sycamores. Chairman Carbon and Director Quadri met with
.GIEE. Area Manager, David Altscher to discuss P.G.&E. pruning standards of
Sycamore trees. Mr. Altscher indicated P.G.&E.'s primary concern is for
safety and lighting. A long term replacement program with cooperation from
P.G.&E. was discussed. While Mr. Altscher could not make any commitments at
the time of the meeting, he encouraged the Beautification Commission to submit
a proposal to P.G.&E. re long term replacement. Placing lines underground
would run approximately $125/ft. or approximately $6,250 per residence. Com-
missioner Hagstrom moved that a letter be submitted to P.G.&E. re negotiations
for a long term replacement program with P.G.&E. and that a final decision of
the trimming of Sycamores be held off until the street tree inventory can be
put on computer. Motion was carried unanimously. Director Quadri will sub-
