HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - BC - 1985.03.07BURLINGAME BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSIOT- March 7, 1985 The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to order on Thursday, March 7, 1985 at 7:35 pm in the City Hall by Vice -Chairman Hagstrom. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Cady, Gilmore, Hagstrom, and Shevchuk. Absent: Commissioners Bowling, Carbon, and Disco. Staff Director Quadri MINUTES Minutes of the February 7, 1985 meeting were approved as submitted. CORRESPONDENCE Letter from G.W. Williams requesting that removed birch trees at 1401 Floribunda be replaced with same to "maintain visual continuity", even though the birch tree is no longer on the approved street tree list. Applications of the 3 newly appointed Burlingame Beautification Commissioners. Letter(s) from Council advising new commissioner(s) of their appointments to the Beautification Commission. k_JRTS QU DRI Director Quadri explained the request for replacing birch trees at 1401 Floribunda. There are yet several birch trees in front of t e building; to put in a different variety of tree would upset the visual effect. Commissioner Shevchuk moved that a permit be issued to 1401 Floribunda granting permission for the planting of birch trees at owner's expense; seconded. Motion was carried unanimously. Director Quadri re orted that 4 sycamore trees have been planted at 1429 Castillo without approval from the City; homeowner has been contacted by the department and indicated that Peters & Wilson did the unauthorized planting. Homeowner will instruct Peters & Wilson to remove and replace with trees from the official street tree list. REPORTS --Commissioners SHEVCHUK Attended Arbor Day Ceremonies and indicated that they went very well; 6 trees were planted. CADY As part of her involvement in Rainbow Girls, Commissioner Cady is looking for sug- estions for a service roject on the theme of "America the Beautiful", perhaps something through t e igh school to beautify the front of BHS. Commissioner Hag- strom recommended talking to Mr. Holm at San Mateo High School. GILMORE Debris is always left in the street after garden pickup. Can the scavenger com- pany clean up debris as they go a ong. HAGSTROM Neighbor's flowering plum is dead. R{+K� Fi•� V OLD BUSINESS Director Quadri reviewed with the Commission the request from Mr. Santos at 9 Vic -to remove a walnut tree and replace with rtstocrat Pears. Commissioner Gilmore moved that permission be granted at homeowners expense; seconded. Motion was carried unanimously. Commission postponed vote on meeting time until April meeting since 3 Commissioners were absent. The Garden Seminar on March 9 will feature Philip Jones & Linda Kliooel on "Growina Rick Huntington on " the class. Commiss ins, and plates. es, cups, NEW BUSINESS Commissioners received copies of the Official Street Tree List and copies of the Powers and Duties of the Commission.
