Mr. Peter W. Popin

Dear Mr. Popin:
V
hr &t1a of Nurlinpmr
SAN MATEO COUNTY
CITY HALL-501 PRIMROSE ROAD
BURLINGAME, CALIFORNIA 94010 TEL:(415) 342-5931
It has been brought to our attention that a city street tree at the above add-
ress has been severely "pruned" in violation of ordinance 11.04.085:
"It is unlawful for any person to cut down, trim, prune, plant,
remove, injure or destroy any tree, shrub, or plant in or upon
any street or public place in the city without a permit there-
for from the director."
The method of "pruning" has severely damaged the tree, and while I believe it
will survive, it will require extra work in coming years. The trees in your
area are scheduled for pruning again in 1988. Should this tree require atten-
tion before that time, you will be billed for our costs. Further, -should the
tree die, you will be held responsible for the cost of replacement.
Should you have any questions, please call me at 342-8931.
Sincerely,
Richard P. Quadri

Mary Gassenberg
967 Chula Vista Ave.
Burlingame, CA 94010
Dear Mrs. Gassenberg:
In response to your letter of March 5, 1986, our department inspected the street
tree at 967 Chula Vista.
It is our opinion that there is no current justification for removing the tree.
The sidewalk damage is minor compared to others in the area, and the City will
take responsibility for its repair. The Public Works department has told me
that the repair to your sidewalk was a temporary patch, and the sidewalks in
your area are tentatively scheduled for permanent repair next year.
Should you wish to discuss this further, please feel free to call me at 342-8931
ext. 20 regarding the tree, or Kevin O'Connell at 342-8931 ext. 73 regarding the
sidewalks.
Sincerely,
Richard P. Quadri

I am writing to you regarding a tree in the front of my residence
at 967 Chula Vista Avenue.
This tree in only 12 years old and is ruining the city sidewalk, my
a new sidewalk which was installed a couple of years ago as well
as my sprinkler system. I.wouli like it removed and a new tree
of a type that has deeper root system.
The way they are repairing the city sidewalks by putting that gravel
and tar is most unsatisfactory. The gravel gets on the shoes and
brings it into the house as it is very loose so that would not be a
solution to my problem.
Thank you for considering this request.
Very truly yours,
r.
