December 4, 1986
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to
order on Thursday, December 4, 1986 at 5:35 p.m. in the City Hall by Chairman
Hagstrom.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairman Hagstrom, Commissioners Erickson, Gilmore, Hughes, and Shevchuk.
Absent: Commissioner Carbon
Staff: Director Quadri
MINUTES
Minutes of the October 2, 1986 meeting were approved as submitted.
COMMUNICATIONS
Letter from Carla Vitali, 1561 Eastmoor Rd., requesting "something be done" about
the tree in front of property ."keeps dripping on car and all park department
does is spray the tree."
Letter to Jeannie Hall Gilmore from Mayor Mangini reappointing her to the Beauti-
fication Commission for a three-year term continuing to October 7, 1989.
Letter to CalTrans from the Beautification Commission requesting the landscaped
area surrounding the Broadway overpass (westside) be maintained in an appropriate
manner.
Memo from the City Atty. to all city boards and commissions re the 1986 Brown Act
Amendments.
Letter from Mrs. Audre L. Nelson, 3045 Rivera Dr. requesting tree be removed
because of the mildew on the inside and outside of the house.
Letter to Mrs. Mary Carr, 2627 Easton Dr., informing her of the Commission's
denial of her request for removal of 2 liquidambars in the front of her property.
REPORTS
HAGSTROM - There are 14 newspaper stands in front of the Capuchino Post Office.
Some are rusty and extend onto the sidewalk. Following a brief discussion, Com-
missioner Hughes moved the Commission seek council from the City Attorney;
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
The area behind Petrini's at the Burlingame Plaza,is an eyesore; there are not
enough garbage bins and there is a strong odor. Commission Shevchuk moved a
letter from the Commission be sent requesting Petrini's clean up their garbage
area; seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
GILMORE - Taylor Intermediate won the November inspection. The Boutique & Villager
took pictures of the Jr. High Commissioners and Principals of both Taylor and BIS
several weeks ago but to date they have not been published.
HUGHES - CalTrans responded to the Commission's letter of October 29, 1986 by
doing some cleaning up of the area around the Broadway overpass.
ERICKSON - The palm tree at the Burlingame Train Depot has dead ivy in it. Direc-
tor Quadri will contact party responsible for removal of ivy.
`%.1 SHEVCHUK - The Broadway train station has been painted.
The lot next to Crowne Plaza has garbage all over. Director Quadri indicated that
the property owner has been notified by theCity and that efforts are being made
to correct the problem.

OLD BUSINESS
Tree Removal/Anita Road - Dorothy Dirr, a resident on Anita across from the
Putnam/Buick project ca led to thank the Commission for denying removal of all
the elms on Anita.
NEW BUSINESS
Tree Removal/1561 Eastmoor Rd. - Director Quadri reported that the resident had
called the Park Department requesting the tree be removed even though the letter
sent does not clearly state that. Commission will inspect and render a decision
at the next meeting.
1986 Brown Act Amendments - Director Quadri reviewed the amendments with the
Commission.
Commissioner Appointments - Deadline for applications is December 5, 1986.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
