BURLINGAME BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
October 2, 1986
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called
to order on Thursday, October 2, 1986 at 5:35 p.m. in the City Hall by
Chairman Hagstrom.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairman Hagstrom, Commissioners Erickson, Gilmore, Hughes, and
Shevchuk.
Absent: Commissioner Carbon
Staff: Director Quadri
MINUTES
Minutes of the September 4, 1986 meeting were approved as submitted.
COMMUNICATIONS
Letter to Mr. & Mrs. Russell Moir, 138 Channing Road, granting a permit to
remove and replace privit tree as per September 4, 1986 Beautification Com-
mission meeting.
REPORTS
QUADRI - Council will be discussing Putnam project on Anita Road at the
October 6 Council meeting.
John Peterson of CalTrans will be meeting with Director Quadri to inspect a
`. Euc at 1227 El Camino Real and decide on possible removal.
HAGSTROM - Post Office parking lot off Broadway still needs paving and has
debris and litter.
Garbage and litter is collecting up against the fence on ECR between Trous-
dale and Murchison (across from the Burlingame Plaza).
The Birch trees at 2705 Adeline need pruning.
The Elm trees at 1315 Alvarado have a lot of deadwood.
GILMORE - The Millbrae and Burlingame Beautification Commissions began
their Clean Campus inspections. Both schools are excited about the kickoff
campaign for the Clean Campus program (i.e., banners, newspaper article,
pictures).
HUGHES - Commissioner Hughes reported that the John Hughes gas station
will be renovated and it is hoped that the garbage along fence area will
be attended to at the same time.
ERICKSON - The exit at Broadway needs to be weeded. Director Quadri
indicated that that area is under the jurisdiction of Caltrans. After a
brief discussion, Commisiosner Gilmore moved that the Commission draft a
letter to be sent to CalTrans requesting that area be weeded; seconded.
Motion carried unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
Landscape Award - The Commission discussed the list of candidates and
generally felt that none of the properties were "outstanding". Commissioner
Shevchuk moved that a letter of commendation be given to Hyatt in recognition

of excellence in landscape maintenance and design at their present location;
seconded. Motion carried unanimously. Chairman Hagstrom will present
the letter of commendation to Hyatt at the Community Dinner.
Tree Removal - 2627 Easton - Director Quadri reported that the Street Dept.
checks & clears the gutter in that area regularly. After a brief discus-
sion, Commissioner Shevchuk moved that the request for removal be denied;
seconded. Motion carried unanimously Commission added however, that they
feel it important that the resident be assured that the Street Dept. will
keep area clear of water and that resident be given the 24 hour number
of the Street Dept. in the event of an emergency.
There being no further business, meeting was adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
