FROM THE FLOOR November 26, 1986 Beautification Commission City of Burlingame, Burlingame, Ca. 94010 RE: Ltr. dated October 20, 1980 Audr6 L. Nelson Gentlemen: In quoting the above and aforementioned letter the problem created by the very same tree has not been resolved - six years later and with several thinning out crews doing their part to create a little sun on our house. I have mildew inside the house around the windows and we have mildew outside the house, all caused by the tree in our front lawn which was supposed to have been planted by your commission before it became a Commission, I an no longer a young woman and cannot keep up with removing mildew inside and outside our home. Also, I cannot think of a valid reason IklY we should pay someone to remove it for us. Please remove the tree. If you do not, I will have it done : Sincerely, (Mrs. William A. Nelson) 3045 Rivera Drive Burlingame, Ca. 94010 (415) 697-6676 il 0 0 DATE: MARCH 5, 1987 TO: BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION FROM: RICHARD QUADRI - DIRECTOR OF PARKS RE: EUCALYPTUS TREE AT 3045 RIVERA At your meeting of February 5, 1987, you reviewed the request for removal of a Eucalyptus Lehmannii at 3045 Rivera Drive. The applicant, Audre' L. Nelson, was present and stated her concerns. It is her contention that the tree shades her house of the extent that mildew has formed both inside and outside her house, and therefore should be removed. Mrs. Nelson made a similar request in 1978 and was turned down by the Com- mission. Since then our crew has thinned the tree on several occasions, most recently in January of this year. EUCALYPTUS LEHMANNII is the prevalent tree on Rivera Drive, and the tree in question is typical of others on the street. It is staff opinion that the tree is not causing the mildew problem and does not significantly shade the house. Therefore, we have taken the position that there is not sufficient justification for removal of this tree. Richard P. Steve sorter was sent out from the narks jept. 1 showed him that this tree should be removed. 16ecouse tn.e roots are coussing extensive damage to my property, and to the :ity sewer pipes, and the sidewalks. The roots are growing higher out of the ground, and my gardener is coutioning me for years, that the tree will fall over, and it might damage my home. in the 25 years since we live in our home, we edured a mass of abuse from this one tree. when in 'plume, it atracts :yeas, a*4nts, and other insects for it's Sapp. when the finger -like connes ripen, they fall all over by the thousands, and the wind blows them into the chemney too. The pollen gives us an alergie reaction every year. This tipe of tree is a newsance, and therefore most of my neighbors had theirs removed through the years, Out of 39 homes in my block, there are only 8 trees left including mine. The Moto -.tooter has bin teling .me that the reason 1 have to call them so often is becouse the roots of the tree is breaking up the ceramic sewer pipes. So please help us after 25 years to corect this mistake the .;ity made by pknting such a bad kinde of tree, and give autorization to ia. sorter to remove this tree from my front yard. :r. sorter said that our request is very vell founded, he tovagrees the tree should go, but he must have your authorization to do it.
