REPORTS
QUADRI - Pershing Park Dedication has been scheduled for June 6 at 10:00 a.m.
GILMORE - Taylor and Burlingame Intermediate Schools have tied in the amount of
years they have won the Clean Campus Program. Taylor won the competition this
year and will fly the Clean Campus Award flag. This will be the last year of
the competition due to the schools wishing to be more involved in Community pro-
jects.
ERICKSON - Eucalyptus on Oak Grove by Burlingame High School look dead on top.
Director Quadri indicated that it was due to the recent street scarifying pro-
ject.
HAGSTROM - Possible projects for Burlingame Intermediate School have become avail-
able from the Garden Study Club. Commissioner Hagstrom will bring information
to the next Commission meeting.
HUGHES - Welcomed all who came to Mercy's Kohl Mansion for this month's meeting.
O'MAHONY - Tree in front of 1427 Floribunda was illegally pruned by gardener. Home-
owner's Asso. would like tree replaced as soon as possible. Director Quadri
advised to call the Park Department to discuss variety and cost of replacement.
SHEVCHUK - There are weeds next to landscaping at Marriott's; can something be
done? Director Quadri advised that corporations are responsible for maintenance
of landscaping -- will investigate.
OLD BUSINESS
Newsrack Ordinance (Order of agenda was changed to accommodate City Attorney
Coleman - Chairman Gilmore explained that the Commission is primarily concerned
with the placement of newsracks and it is clearly not their intention to regu-
late the material that is placed in the racks. City Attorney explained that an
ordinance regarding placement of such racks would need to be adopted; that,
several years ago action was being taken to adopt such an ordinance but the
newspapers intervened by placing modular racks. Since the immediate concerns
were addressed by the newspapers' actions the ordinance was never adopted. Chair-
man Gilmore moved that a letter be addressed to Council requesting they recon-
sider adopting the newsrack ordinance due to the safety factor of the location
of some newsracks and of the unsightly appearance; seconded. Motion carried
unanimously.
Home Garden Seminar - Director Quadri chose "Dealing With Drought" as the theme
of this year's seminar.
Tree Removal/732 Farringdon - Commissioner Erickson stated that she felt uncom-
fortable with the recent action granting permission for the removal of trees at
above address. Director Quadri suggested that the Commission may want to include
items on the agenda such as trees, sidewalks, sewers, root removal, etc. for the
Commission to discuss and study to help in making future decisions.
NEW BUSINESS
Landscape Awards Committee - Chairman Gilmore appointed Commissioners Hagstrom,
Root, and O'Mahony to serve on the nominating committee for the 1987 Landscape
Awards to be presented at the Community Dinner in October. Two awards will be
given; one for samll businesses and one for large businesses. Marriott Hotel
\.. and 108 Myrtle were discussed as possible nominees. Last year's nominees in-
cluded Hyatt, 1333 Bayshore Hwy.; Entre, 525 California Dr.; King Building, 1350
Old Bayshore; Crowne Plaza, 600 Airport Blvd.; and the Executive Center, 880
