tion for her service to the City of Burlingame on the Beautification Commission.
Letter to Mrs. Audre Nelson, 3045 Rivera Dr. from Director Quadri informing her
of the Commission's denial of her request for removal of tree at her address.
Letter from Mr. Robert W. Booth (728 Farringdon) and Mr. Ted Kevranian (732 Far-
ringdon) requesting removal of trees at 732 due to roots invading rose garden at
728, lifting gutters and curbs, invading sewer laterals, and surface roots invad-
ing lawn at 732 Farringdon.
At this point Chairman Gilmore requested that the order of agenda be changed to
accommodate Mrs. Nelson.
Tree Removal/3045 Rivera Dr. - Mrs. Nelson stated that she came to the March 5,
1987 Beautification Commission meeting only to find all the doors locked to the
City Hall. Mrs. Nelson chastised the Commission for having denied her request
for removal. She indicated that the tree has been trimmed by the Park Department
but it looks very "ugly", and the trimming will not alleviate the problem with
mildew. Commissioner Hagstrom stated that the Commission felt that removal of
the tree would not alleviate mildew, that the mildew quite possibly is due to the
metal frame windows. Mrs. Nelson stated that if there are any problems she wishes
to go down on record as having requested removal. Chairman Gilmore stated that
having noted Mrs. Nelson's deep concern she has the right to appeal to the City
Council. Mrs. Nelson replied that she would not appeal.

OLD BUSINESS
Tree Removal/732 Farringdon - Mr. Robert W. Booth was present and stated: The
liquidambars next door lift the gutter, sidewalk, and curb. Large roots from
these trees invade his rose garden. He has placed metal sheeting along the drive
to keep the roots out of the rose garden, but the roots have gone under the sheet-
ing and into the rose garden; it is necessary to have the sewer cleaned out 3-4
times a year; one neighbor in the area is unable to get his cars into the driveway
unless he places ramps from the street to the drive; gutters are lifted and pre-
vents water from flowing down storms drains. Mr. Booth requests that trees be
removed and replaced with trees that cause less or no problems to sidewalks.
Director Quadri will request a report from Public Works regarding the status of
repairs in that area. Commission will review and render a decision at the May
meeting.
Tree Removal/1386 Hillside Cr. - Commissioner Hagstrom stated that the Hawthornes
in that area are very old but the Hawthornes at 1386 Hillside Cr. are better look-
ing than most. Director Quadri indicated that Tree Leadworker indicated the trees
are healthy. According to records, trees have not been trimmed for some time. The
Park Department would like to address the concerns by trimming all the Hawthornes
in the area. Following a brief discussion, Commissioner Hughes moved that the tree
crew trim the trees in hopes of addressing the problem; seconded. Motion carried
unanimously.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
