TO: Beautification Commissioners
FROM: John Williams
SUBJECT: City Ordinances re Beautification
As we add two new Commissioners it seems appropriate to revisit the City Ordinances that
govern your Commission, City street trees and private protected trees, as well as some of the
other procedural matters we deal with. Enclosed are copies of the City Ordinance that establishes
your Commission, states your charge, etc. Also enclosed are copies of the Law regarding City
street trees and related issues and the latest version of the Urban Reforestation and Tree
Protection Ordinance.
The enclosed Commission Rules of Procedure have been developed by the Commission to guide
the way in which the Commission does its business. I am also currently working with the City
Attorney to find out what specific information he, as a relatively new City Attorney, would like
for you all to have regarding the Brown Act which governs the conduct of the public's business
and public meetings, such as yours. I would expect to have any updated Brown Act material
available to you prior to your February meeting. New Commissioners will find copies of the old
Brown Act material enclosed for your information.
I have asked Tim and Karlene to include an item on the January meeting agenda so that any
Commissioner can ask any questions they might have about either the City Ordinances, the
Commission procedures, or the Brown Act. Specific questions about Brown Act info may have
to be answered after discussions with the City Attorney.
I hope your holiday season has been terrific! In case of damp weather --stand on this material. It
is very dry.
