RE: REQUEST TO REMOVE THREE PRIVATE BLAC%ACACIA TREES @ 8I3 PAL011A
AVENUE - BURLINGAME
At its meeting of September 5, 2002 the Beautification Commission voted 7 - 0 to deny the appeal and
to allow the permit to be issued for the removal and replacement of three Black Acacia trees in the back
yard at the above address.
The Commission strongly recommended that the required planting of3 - 24" box size replacement trees
be planted in the back yard of the property to compensate for the lost visual screen caused by the
removal of these evergreen trees.
This decision can be appealed to the City Council in writing within 10 days of receipt of this letter. If
no appeals to the Council have been received by September 23rd, the permit will be issued.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, you may call the Parks Division at (650) 558-7330.

Attention: Steven Porter, City Arborist
Dear Mr. Porter:
RE: Request for removal of three Black Acacia Trees @ 813 Paloma Avenue, Burlingame
I am writing to inquire about the Black Acacia trees to see if there is any way to
-- save them by trimming them back to make them safe.
My husband and I have lived at 804 Fairfield Road for the past 25 years, and we
love to see the beautiful tall trees in the neighborhood. We certainly understand
that if the trees are hazardous they should be removed, but we would like to see if
anything could be done to save them.
Sincerely,
Evel n Walker

RE: REQUEST FOR REMOVAL OF THREE BLACK ACACIA TREES @ 813 PALOMA
AVE. - BURLINGAME
I reviewed your request for the removal of three BlackAcacia trees located on the Southwest border
of the property at the above address, and have made the following determination:
1) The trees are structurally unsound, having multiple trunks, uneven branch
distribution, top heavy.
2) This species is listed with the International Society of Arboriculture as
having a high rate of whole tree failure due to a shallow root system.
3) Replacement with three 24" box size trees will be required as defined in Section
11.06.090 of the Urban Reforestation and Tree Protection Ordinance.
Therefore, I intend to issue a permit for the removal of the treessubject to the provisions of the
Burlingame Municipal Code. If you agree with the conditions, please sign the enclosed permit and
return in the self addressed envelope BEFORE June 26, 2002.
If you wish to appeal this decision or any of its conditions or findings, you must file a written request
by June 26, 2002 as provided in Section 11.06.080 of the Urban Reforestation and Tree Protection
Ordinance (Burlingame Municipal Code Chapter 11. 06). The permit will be issued if no appeal has
been received by that date.
Sincerely,
