BACKGROUND: On June 28, 2007 the Burlingame Beautification Commission held a special meeting at the Burlingame Presbyterian Church in order to present information and receive public comment regarding possible replacement trees on lower Easton Drive. 23 people attended the meeting, including Staff and Commissioners. The replacement trees will be planted when existing trees require removal due to health, defective structure, or safety reasons. The City has engaged the services of an independent arborist to evaluate the existing trees on an ongoing basis. At the meeting Commission Chair Leslie McQuaide and City Staff reviewed previously selected trees as well as problems associated with those trees. Availability of several of the previously discussed species was reviewed. Public comment was received. The clear consensus of the attendees was that a single tree, Eucalyptus citriodora, be used as the only replacement tree. The attendees saw no value in planting accent trees on the corners of lower Easton Drive. The attendees did not wish to introduce non -Eucalyptus specie onto the street. Lacking a quorum, the Commission was unable to take action at the June 28 meeting.
