AUGUST 5, 2010
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by
Vice Chair Benson.
ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners Benson, Hunt, and McQuaide
Absent: Commissioner Lahey, Carney, Dittman, and Wright
Staff: Parks Supervisor Disco and Administrative Secretary Harvey
Due to a lack of quorum the Commission only reviewed, updated, and reported on the agenda items
MINUTES — Minutes were approved as submitted.
CORRESPONDENCE
Letter from the Beautification Commission to Robert P. Riggs, President of Riggs Distributing,
congratulating his business Sub -Zero Wolf at 1755 Rollins Road for winning the Burlingame Business
Landscape Award for 2010 because of the unique charm it added to Rollins Road, creating a landscape
that is a showcase for the rest of Rollins Road.

L. OLD BUSINESS
Landscape Award 2010 — Committee Update
Commissioner McQuaide reported that Dale Perkins is working on the art rendering of Sub Zero Wolf.
Administrative Secretary Harvey noted that the plaque had been completed, adding that a press release
with a picture of the business would be sent to the local newspaper agencies and would include
information about the award presentation at the September 20`h City Council meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
Description of Beautification Commission
The Commission reviewed and suggested some minor changes to the Commission description to be
included on the City's website.
1400 Block Balboa Avenue — Unavailability of Catalpa Tree for "Themed Block"
Supervisor Disco reported that Catalpa trees are no longer available from nurseries or growers. He added
that several trees on the 1400 block of Balboa Avenue had been removed and replacements would need to
happen fairly soon. Supervisor Disco concluded that staff would notify Pat Giorni (original requestor and
petitioner), and inform her that replacement options would be chosen by the individual property owners
from the appropriate street tree list of that area.
REPORTS — Supervisor Disco
1) A $40,000 grant from CALFIRE has been approved for a new street and park tree
inventory with GPS coordinates. Matching funds were also received from City of
Burlingame and ABAG. As part of the grant application, the Beautification
Commission would assist with the Community outreach.
2) CPRS Seminar for Commissioners would be conducted October 23`d in Belmont.
Commissioners are encouraged to attend and should contact the Parks office if
interested

Commissioner Benson
Reported that the Annual Flower Garden Show would be August 12`h at 792 Willborough Road; event
benefits the Master Gardeners Program.
Commissioner Benson reported that one of the large planters in front of the train station had been
vandalized.
Commissioner Benson concluded her report stating, that her term would expire in mid October and she
would not be making reapplication to serve another term, but added that she would still be trimming,
sprucing, weeding and watering the Burlingame Avenue planters.
Commissioner Hunt
Reported that she had noticed numerous "Stop" signs blocked by tree branches. Staff encouraged the
Commission to contact the Park office with addresses so "Stop" signs could be cleared by Parks stag.
Commissioner Benson noted a "Stop" sign at the corner of Adeline and Balboa is blocked by a City tree.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:30 pm.
