REPORTS — Staff
Administrative Secretary Harvey
1) Five city -owned trees were removed in the planter strip fronting the property at 1900 Broadway.
The trees were removed due to the 50/50 sidewalk repair program because the trees roots had been
cut previously during curb and street repair. Supervisor Disco approved the removal because
additional root pruning on the sidewalk side would have rendered the Magnolia trees unstable. Six
replacement trees will be planted back in the planter strip as part of the "final" on the remodel
project at 1900 Broadway at the expense of the property owner.
Chairperson McOuaide
Commissioner McQuaide reported that the newly formed Burlingame Garden Club is working on a volunteer
project to improve and cleanup the business districts (Burlingame Avenue, Broadway, and Burlingame Plaza.) by
picking up cigarette butts, weeding landscaped areas, and occasionally planting bulbs or native seeds. The group is
also planning a fundraising by selling cook books.
Commissioner Lahey
Commissioner Lahey asked when the tree on the 1800 block of Easton Drive would be planted. Secretary Harvey
reported that Supervisor Disco still intends to plant the tree even though the homeowner is resisting; and that he
would try to fmd an opportune time for the planting to occur.
Commissioner Hunt
Commissioner Hunt apologized for not being able to participate in the Pet Parade but had a conflict on that day.
Commissioner Dittman
Commissioner Dittman reported that the Pet Parade was great, she enjoyed the bands, and the Commission received
Honorable Mention for their participation in the parade. Commission Hinckle added that it was great to be in the
Pet Parade and she stated to quote Commissioner Dittman's comment, "What's not to love about Burlingame with
the smell of Chocolate and Jasmine in the air and where the fire department and police department come out to join
`-- the community for a fim event like this"... Commissioner Hinkle also noted that the Commission was one of the
semi-finalists in the "float" category.
Commissioner Carney
Commissioner Carney stated she was sorry to be leaving the Commission and added the Commission is doing a
fantastic job and plays a vital part in promoting the care and protection of trees in Burlingame. Commissioner
Carney then submitted an article entitled "A California Guide of Trees Among Us" along with tree brochures
published by P.G.&E for selecting trees under power lines.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:05 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Recording Secretary
