The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to order at 6:30 pm. by Chairperson
McQuaide.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairperson McQuaide, Dittman, and Hunt
Absent: Commissioners Carney, Hinckle, Lahey, and Wright
Staff: Supervisor Disco and Administrative Secretary Harvey
The scheduled meeting lacked the required quorum, therefore no action was taken on any item. However,
information was disseminated on the following agendized items.
MINUTES Minutes of the June 2, 2011 meeting would be approved at the September 1, 2011 meeting.
CORRESPONDENCE
• Website posting item(s): New Tree Inventory for the "City of Trees" and "Help Plant New Trees to
Sustain the City of Trees".
• Urban Forest Resource Analysis & Tree Inventory Report
• Rotation Schedule for Commission Officers and Landscape Award Committee (December 2011)
• Letter from Parks Supervisor Disco informing property owners at 1408 De Soto Avenue and 1411
Vancouver Avenue that the appeal for the approval of the removal of a Black Acacia tree in the
easement between the properties was upheld by the Commission at the June 2, 2011 meeting, and
removal of the tree was denied.
• Letter from the Beautification Commission congratulating Manager Dalton Archie for Il Fomaio
Restaurant being chosen this year's recipient of the 2011 Landscape Award.
• Letter from Dale Perkins thanking the Beautification Commission for the sympathy card in the
�. passing of his wife, Evie.
PUBLIC COMMENT
There were no public comments.
OLD BUSINESS
2011 Landscape Award Update
Administrative Secretary Harvey reported that she had been in contact with artist, Dale Perkins, and that he had
begun work on the rendering of the 11 Fornaio Restaurant, and would be providing a proof to the Parks Office or the
Commission for review. Secretary Harvey noted that the award plaque had been completed and the presentation
was scheduled for the September 19, 2011 Council meeting. Chairperson McQuaide stated she would forward a
picture of 11 Fornaio Restaurant to the Parks office for publicizing and her husband, John, would volunteer to take
pictures during the Council presentation on September 19d .
2011 Broadway Pet Parade Participation — September 24th Q 10:00 am
The Commission discussed ideas related to the pet parade and would further discuss at the September 1, 2011
meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
Burlingame Avenue Streetscape Status — Park Supervisor Disco
Parks Supervisor Disco reported that a meeting was held with Planning, PW Engineering, Parks, and Consultants to
begin preliminary discussions and planning for the Burlingame Avenue Streetscape, however, preliminary plans for
Commissions input and comment would likely not be available until some time next year.

Rotation Process of Beautification Commission Officers & Landscape Award Committee — December 2012
The Commission reviewed the "Rotation" and would further discuss and review at the September 1, 2011 meeting.
REPORTS — Staff
Parks Supervisor Disco
Green Trees for the Golden State Grant: Final reimbursement was submitted and was accepted by the State, and
reimbursement from CalFire has been received.
Tree Inventory Grant: At the July 18" Council meeting, Davey Tree Resource presented a power point presentation
explaining the results and analysis of the information gathered from the City's trees. The report will be posted on
the P&R web site in the next several weeks. (Copies of the report included in Commissioner packets).
Parks & Recreation Department will soon have a link on the City web site for residents to sign in and view City
street trees. The link will provide actual photos of individual trees (via Google) and detailed attributes about each
tree.
At the September V Commission meeting, a public hearing will be held recommending removal of a large City
owned Eucalyptus tree on El Camino Real. The Eucalyptus tree is growing near the foundation of a house and
causing damage to the structure. Information related to this agenda item will be sent to the Commission for review.
Since this is a public hearing, if any Commissioners are unable to attend this important meeting, please contact the
Parks office.
Administrative Secretary Harvey
Articles regarding the new Tree Inventory and request for donations to continue planting new trees would be posted
on the E-News once links from the article to the City's "Tree" page had been established.

Commissioner Hunt •—*N
Commissioner Hunt reported on the following maintenance issues: 1) A City tree on Oak Grove adjacent from
Winchester Drive is blocking a "Stop" sign; 2) A City tree on Poppy Drive, near Vancouver Avenue, is hanging
low over the sidewalk; 3) Some branches are out over roadside on the east side of California Drive, just north of
Broadway; 4) Two trees (Myoporums) at 1438 Paloma Avenue are curled.
Commissioner Dittman
Commissioner Dittman asked if the tree at 1800 Easton Drive had been planted Supervisor Disco responded that
the replacement tree had not yet been planted. Commissioner Dittman asked for clarification if residents are
required to have a tree. Supervisor Disco clarified that it is the policy that if the City right-of-way had a tree and
was removed by the City, a replacement tree is required.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm.
