Kathy presented a detailed report to the Trustees regarding the
activities, programs and services that occur yearly in the Children’s
Department. Here are some highlights.
Children’s Staff – Kim Day, Kelly Mackewicz and Jenny Miner
are the full-time librarians. On-call librarians help with desk
shifts when necessary.
Children’s circulation makes up 53% of the total circulation for
the library. In the fiscal year July 2017-June 2018 total
circulation for the main library and Easton was 636,974.
There are 6 story times a week for a total of 229 toddlers,
preschool and baby story times in the fiscal year July 2017-
June 2018. Attendance for all story times was 15,393.
237 special event programs were held for preschool,
elementary and teens with a combined attendance of 18,869.
Children’s staff also visits Hillsborough and Burlingame
elementary and middle schools, as well as Burlingame High to
promote special programs such as Poetry Month and Summer
Reading.
In January of this year a Homework Center has been provided
for grades 1-6 in the Tech Lab. A paid employee assists
students with their assignments. The program will conclude in

VIII.New Business
A.Budget for Fiscal Year- 2019-2020
Brad reviewed the library budget for the next fiscal year and stated that
it has to be approved by the City Council.
B.Census 2020
State funding for libraries is based on the census so an accurate
count of the population is very significant. Librarians are trying to
find ways for their libraries to help promote a successful census. Brad
noted that the Library Foundation and the Trustees can provide
important assistance in this effort.
C.Donor Wall Addition
The current donor wall was paid for by the Trustees at the time of the
2013-2015 library remodel. There have been inquiries about the
possibility of increasing the size of the donor wall in order to add
more donor plaques. VKK Signmakers Inc. submitted an estimate to
add another row to the top of the current donor wall. The estimate
also included replacement of the letter “O” that has been missing
from the Lane Community Room Signage.
The Trustees passed a motion to allocate the sum of $955.22 to VKK
Signmakers, Inc. for a new row of donor plaques to be added to the
current donor wall, and to replace the letter “O” that has been
missing from the Lane Room Signage.
