V. Reports
A. City Librarian's Report
Personnel Update
• Loma O'Neill will join the Circulation Department as a
Library Assistant.
• Library staff attended the annual PLP Future of Libraries
event at the SFPL main library on Oct. 3rd. Cynthia noted
some of the topics presented to attendees were "Do we need
to get away from tech in early literacy education and are VR
and AR really the future for libraries?".
B. Foundation Report
The Foundation raised approximately $6,000 at their October
book sale. Increased publicity and constant re -stocking of items
helped sales.
VI. Monthly Report - Cynthia Rider - Adult Services
Cynthia gave the Trustees an overview of how adult programming
functions.
Staff decided to adopt a theme for their programs every 6 months.
The current theme is "Get Healthy at the Library".
One of the ideas is to have fewer programs with a wider variety of
subject matter and hopefully increase attendance. For example,
both the Drag Queen and pickling programs were attended by an
entirely new audience.
The First Friday art shows, overseen by Elaine Tai, have been
very successful with attendance at most shows in the 100 people
range. It has been decided to discontinue the art shows in the
winter partially due to the possibility of inclement weather.
The program theme for January is "Connecting with Your
Community".
Cynthia emphasized that one of her program goals is to support
new authors at the library and give them the opportunity to
promote their books by giving book talks.
VII. Unfinished Business
Speaker's Series
Trustee Murray reported that the event held on Saturday, October 6tn
featuring Patricia Arquette, Academy Award Winning Actor and Activist,
and Congresswoman Jackie Speier was thoroughly enjoyed by all who
attended. Randi noted that Jackie Speier has written a new book
entitled "Undaunted" that will be available to the public in the near
future. The date for the next speaker's series has not been determined.
VIII. New Business
A. Staff Gift Cards for Library Cafe
Trustee Nagler suggested giving $5.00 gift cards for the Fika Cafe to
staff for anniversary recognition or other special occasions. Funding
would come from one of the Trustee funds. This item will be on the
November agenda.
B. Gavin Jones/Duvateen Sound Invoice
The Trustees unanimously passed a motion to fund the sound
system used for the Speaker's Series provided by Gavin
Jones/Duvateen Sound in the amount of $1,700. M/S/C
