V. Librarian's Report
A. Highlights
• Personnel - The Circulation Department is in the process of
hiring 4 new aides.
• Lighting Issue in Reading Room - Patrons continue to express
concern that there is a glare from the windows where the Large
Type shelving is located. A possible solution is to purchase new
shades that can be raised and lowered by a remote control to
alleviate the glare.
B. Foundation Report
• The Foundation Book Sale raised $6,000.
• The Speaker's Series Committee is meeting on Monday May 21 st to
discuss the next event.
VI. Unfinished Business
A. June Trustee Meeting at Easton
The Trustees will hold their June 19th meeting at the Easton Library.
The June agenda will be posted at both the main and Easton
Libraries.
B. Term Limits for Current Trustee Positions
Trustee Murray is applying for a 3 year term.
Trustee Blanco resigned his position as of June 30, 2018. The
person selected for the vacant position will serve for 1 year and
then can reapply for a 3 year term.
Interviews for these positions will be held on June 1 lth.
VII. New Business
A. Website Update - Monthly topic - Megan Wong
• Currently the committee is working with the Web Master, Karen
Hager of the Recreation Department to work out bugs and make
design changes if possible.
• Library Website is using the same template as the Parks and
Recreation Department for events and programming. Searching
for events is not a feature of the Library Website. However, a link
out to LibCal will be provided in order to search for programs and
events.
• The software being used for the Website is a proprietary software
and in some instances it is not possible to make the design
changes the Library would like.
• The Website is not currently set up to categorize programs/events
specifically for adults, children or teens but this will be fixed soon.
However, as an alternative, the Library mobile app is up and
running and has this feature. So information on event and
programs can easily be located.
• Wireless access points need to be re -mounted for optimum speed.
The Library applied for a grant and received funding to get better
and faster access points. The Facilities staff is working with us to
mount the access points. Any funds left over from the grant will be
used for cabling.
• Video games are now available and are very popular.
B. New Landscaping in Front of Library
• The landscaping plan for the new lawn was to plant no mow grass.
However, because of the shade created by the large tree in front of
the Library, the landscape planners felt the no mow grass would
not survive. Therefore, shade grass was planted
• The flower beds will be planted with drought tolerant plants.
VIII. Announcements
Brad advised the Trustees that he is in the process of getting quotes from
different vendors to digitize the Advance Star volumes. The current
estimate is $80,000 but the cost could exceed this amount.
IX. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 6:45PM. M/S/C (Rosenthal/Altmann)
The next meeting of the Library Board of Trustees will be held on June
19, 2018 at the Easton Branch Library.
