RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME URGING
SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 14 ON THE MARCH 7, 2000 BALLOT TO PROVIDE
FUNDING TO IMPROVE LOCAL LIBRARIES
WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Governor have placed the California Reading and
Literacy Improvement and Public Construction and Renovation Bond Act of 2000 on the March
7, 2000, ballot as Proposition 14; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 14 would provide $350 million in State general obligation bonds
to provide grants to local libraries with a required 35% match; and
WHEREAS, California's public libraries are in serious need of funding to support
growing demands that may be in excess of $1 billion; and
WHEREAS, improvement of community libraries mutually benefit all citizens in the area;
and
WHEREAS, the Easton Branch Library would be eligible for consideration for funding
for repair, upgrade, and correction of Americans with Disabilities Act deficiencies under
Proposition 14,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
1. The City Council urges citizens to vote in favor of Proposition 14 to provide funding
to improve and sustain local free libraries in the State.

foregoing Resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 23rd
day of February , 2000, and was adopted thereafter by the following vote:
