Re: Monthly Report
Parks Division
1) New equipment received and placed in service: riding turf mower, walk behind mower for
Washington Part infield, and tow behind aerator.
2) Hiring process for a Maintenance Worker has been completed. Two temporary workers
have been hired for the Summer.
3) Police Department landscaping project is near completion.
4) Path repair in the front portion of Washington Park was completed by contractor.
Recreation Division
1) Recreation Center: The kitchen was painted and the butcher block table was covered with
stainless steel. The Auditorium floor was refinished.
2) Aquatics: The pool opened for the Summer season on Sunday, May 12, with over 200
recreation swimmers in attendance. BAC opened on Sundays for Recreation Swim and on
Memorial Day. Rented the Aquatics Center for a USS Water Polo tournament with 7 water
polo teams from throughout the country. The swim team ran the snack bar as a fundraiser.
3) Teens: YAC held a dance with 290 teens attending. Two new programs were very
successful in their first time out: 3-on-3 high school basketball tournament with 10 teams,
and a teen trip to Disneyland for 32 teens. Teens also held a Giants trip for 15 teens.
4) Preschool: Preschool took a field trip to Burgess Park in Menlo Park on Cal -train attended
by approximately 70 children and parents. The Playschool Villagers preschool finished the
school year on May 31 with 25 children graduating.
5) Special Events: Art in the Park was held on June 8a' & 9th in Washington Park. This year's
event featured the new addition of Teddy Bear Lane. The event drew widespread praise from
the community and the artists.
