FROM THE FLOOR Speakers may address the Commission concerning any matter over which the Commission has jurisdiction or of which it may take cognizance that is not on the agenda. Additional public comments on agenda action items will be heard when the Commission takes up those items. The Ralph M. Brown Act (the State local agency open meeting law) prohibits the Commission from acting on any matter that is not on the agenda. Speakers are asked to fill out a "request to speak" card located on the table by the door and hand it to staff, although provision of name, address or other identifying information is optional. City of Burlingame Page 2 Printed on 9/29/2016 BURLINGAME BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION September 1, 2016 The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to order at 6:30 pm by Commissioner Hunt. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioner Hunt, Kirchner, Hinckle and Kearney Absent: Commissioner McQuaide Staff. Parks and Recreation Director Glomstad and Recording Secretary Borba MINUTES Commissioner Kearny made a motion to approve the July 7, 2016 minutes. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Kirchner and unanimously approved. CORRESPONDENCE None PUBLIC COMMENT William Ma a resident of Burlingame who graduated from UC Irvine commented on how the City of Irvine puts a tremendous amount of money into their street architecture and landscaping and hoped he could incorporate some ideas back into our City. C1711III :31by lei DIV 1. 2016 Business Landscape Award The 2016 Business Landscape Award will be presented to the landscape of Mondi Salon atl205 Howard Avenue on Monday, September 19, 2016. Commissioner Hinckle stated that we will be honoring the owner Dave Richanbach not the business at 1205 Howard Avenue. Commissioner Kirchner will provide the slide show and flyers for the presentation at the Council meeting. NEW BUSINESS 1. Beautification and Parks and Recreation Commission Openings Director Glomstad reported there are two openings on both commissions. 2. 2017 Business Landscape Award Chairs The 2017 Business Landscape Award Chair is Commissioner Kirchner and Co -Chair is Commissioner Kearny. 3. Private Tree Removal Tracking Director Glomstad informed the Commissioners that we are now tracking Private Tree Removal permits. Secretary Borba stated the permits are being tracked on and excel spreadsheet that can quarry information, 2014 and 2015 have been entered and we are working on completing 2016. REPORTS 1. Park and Recreation Director 1. Director Glomstad gave an update on El Camino Real trees. Bob Disco and Director Glomstad, along with an independent Arborist, have met with a group from Caltrans to discuss the different tree related issues faced along El Camino Real. The outcomes of the meetings have led to re -inventorying the trees, determining locations where trees are able to be replanted, removed of stumps and replanting of trees. The next step is for Caltrans to determine the available funds for pruning. Next steps include prioritizing testing of existing trees. 2. Starting this month all future BBC Agendas and Minutes will be posted on Legistar which is available through the City website. This will allow for easier access for the public to get Commission information. 2. Commissioner Kirchner None 3. Commissioner Hinckle Commissioner Hinckle commented that she has put up a free library at her residence. She has ordered a second one that will be lower to the ground for little children and she will keep them stocked with books. 4. Commissioner McQuaide None 5. Commissioner Hunt None 6. Commissioner Kearney Commissioner Kearney commented on Any Car Service at Peninsula and El Camino Real. She would like to see a tree go in there to make that corner look nicer.
