MEETING MINUTES
October 6, 2016
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to order at 6:30 pm by
Commissioner McQuaide.
ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioner McQuaide, Kirchner and Kearney
Absent: Commissioner Hinckle and Hunt
Staff: Parks Superintendent/City Arborist Disco and Recording Secretary Borba
MINUTES
Commissioner Kearny made a motion to approve the September 1, 2016 minutes. The motion was
seconded by Commissioner Kirchner and unanimously approved.
CORRESPONDENCE
Starting in October Commissioners will receive BBC Agendas and Minutes through Legistar which is
available through the City website. This will allow for easier access for the public to get Commission
information.

None
OLD BUSINESS
1. 2016 Business Landscape Award
The 2016 Business Landscape Award was presented to the landscape of Mondi Salon atl205 Howard
Avenue at the City Council meeting on Monday, September 19, 2016. Commissioner Kirchner stated
that Commissioner Hinckle did a wonderful job with the presentation.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Beautification and Parks and Recreation Commission Openings
The deadline for submitting an application for the Beautification Commission opening is
October 7, 2016.
2. 2017 Business Landscape Award
Commissioner Kirchner will prepare the 2017 Business Landscape Award timeline for the next
meeting and Secretary Borba will prepare the time line for the communication and promotion.
REPORTS
1. Park Superintendent/City Arborist
1. The Parks division has removed the landscaping in the bulb outs on Broadway. This was done so
the Broadway Business District can install up lights at the base of each tree. Once the lights are
installed the Parks Division will re -plant the corners with new landscaping.
2. West Coast Arborists will be removing a large Eucalyptus tree on Easton that has become a
potential hazard starting on October 17th. It should take two to three days to complete the removal.
2. Commissioner Kirchner
Commissioner Kirchner reported that he sent the Business Landscape Award flyer to the Historical
Society. He is also going to prepare a flyer with the pictures of the watercolors prepared by Dale
Perkins. Commissioner Kirchner requested to have the Sustainable Landscape Award be put back on
the agenda for the November meeting. Commissioner Kirchner requested to see the plans for the
Skyline Dog Park. He also made a comment regarding Next Door and questions regarding trees that
are being eliminated, most of the time they are private trees but doesn't feel comfortable responding.
Secretary Borba said to refer them the Parks Office for any information they may need.
3. Commissioner Hinckle
None
4. Commissioner McQuaide
Commissioner McQuaide and other Commissioners will contribute to offset the cost of the watercolor
prepared by Dale Perkins for the Business Landscape Award. Commissioner McQuaide will suggest
to Mr. Perkins that he prepare less copies next year to help with expenses.

6. Commissioner Kearney
None
The next Beautification Commission meeting is November 3, 2016. There being no further business, the
meeting adjourned at 6:55 pm.
