6URLINGAME STAFF REPORT
To: Beautification Commission
Date: May 4, 2017
From: Margaret Glomstad, Parks and Recreation Director
Bob Disco, Parks Superintendent and City Arborist
Subject: Review of Burlingame Avenue Eucalyptus Tree Report
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Commission give input regarding the mature Eucalyptus trees on
Burlingame Avenue.
BACKGROUND
During the winter storms of 2017, Burlingame Avenue experienced the failure of 2 Eucalyptus
trees (one of which resulted in a loss of an additional tree) and the emergency removal of 3
Eucalyptus trees. The failures were due to saturated soil and root decay. Due to these
circumstances, an independent arborist was retained to evaluate the health and structure of all
the mature Eucalyptus trees on Burlingame Avenue.

The final report is expected to be received the week of May 1, 2017. The results will be
presented to the Commissioners at the Commission meeting.
