Speakers may address the Commission concerning any matter over which the Commission has
jurisdiction or of which it may take cognizance that is not on the agenda. Additional public comments
on agenda action items will be heard when the Commission takes up those items. The Ralph M. Brown
Act (the State local agency open meeting law) prohibits the Commission from acting on any matter that
is not on the agenda. Speakers are asked to fill out a "request to speak" card located on the table by
the door and hand it to staff, although provision of name, address or other identifying information is
optional. Speakers are limited to three minutes each, although the Commission may adjust the time
limit in light of the number of anticipated speakers.

BURLINGAME BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
Draft Minutes August 2, 2018
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Beautification Commission was called to order at 6:30 pm by
Commission Chair Hinckle.
ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners Hinckle, Hunt, Kirchner and Dinuri
Absent: Commissioner Kearney
Staff. Parks & Recreation Director Glomstad and Parks Superintendent/City Arborist Disco

MINUTES
Commissioner Kirchner stated there is a correction to the June 7, 2018 minutes. Under Old Business, 1)
Business Landscape and Residential Sustainable Landscape Award Draft Nominations and Ideas for an
Award Presented to the Residential Sustainable Landscape Winner, in the title and on line 5 it should read
Business Landscape Award Winner instead of Residential Sustainable Landscape Award Winner.
Commissioner Hunt made a motion to approve the June 7, 2018 minutes as amended. The motion was
seconded by Commissioner Kirchner and unanimously approved.

OLD BUSINESS
1. Business Landscape and Residential Sustainable Landscape Award Selection of Award
Recipients and Ideas for an Award Presented to the Business Landscape Winner
The Commissioners discussed the nominations for the Business Landscape Award and Residential
Sustainable Landscape Award. The Commissioners choose 704 Concord Avenue as the winner of the
Residential Sustainable Landscape Award and Camino Real Pet Clinic at 1317 Bayswater Avenue as
the Business Landscape Award winner.
The Commission discussed splitting up the City into grids for next year's Residential Sustainable
Landscape Award nominations. Commissioner Kirchner presented his rendition of an outdoor plaque
for the Business Landscape Award. Director Glomstad inquired if the design could be made into a
sticker that could be displayed in a window. Secretary Borba will look into getting pricing to have
stickers made of the design.

Director Glomstad distributed a flyer regarding the upcoming workshop.

3. Commissioner Hunt
Commissioner Hunt inquired about the Sycamore trees and the pruning practices the City follows.
Arborist Disco explained the Sycamores are being trimmed by the City Tree Contractor and the
instructions were to lower them by 20 ft. to try to encourage more intergrowth.

5. Commissioner Kirchner
Commissioner Kirchner reported that the Electrification Station location has been changed to 1631
North Carolan Avenue at the Public Works Corporation Yard. He also inquired about a dead
Magnolia street tree on Hillside Drive between Bernal Ave. and Drake Ave. that was removed.
Arborist Disco reported the Magnolias suffered through the drought. Most are coming back due to
the City spending a lot of time watering City trees. Commissioner Kirchner brought a piece of the
Eucalyptus that was removed on Easton to show the Commissioners the extent of the decay.

7. Commissioner Dinuri
Commissioner Dinuri reported she attended the Cal train meeting regarding a Parrelling Station on
Mills Avenue. The proposal looks like it is going to be large and visible from the street. She also
stated she will not be at the September meeting. Commissioner Dinuri reported she is concerned
about someone breaking branches off trees in her neighborhood on Bellevue.
The next Beautification Commission meeting is September 6, 2018. There being no further business, the
meeting adjourned at 7:25 pm.
