Subject Youth Advisory Committee Update
Informational only.
On Thursday, February 27, 2104 the Burlingame Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)
presented an Anti -Bullying assembly for the 8th grade class at Burlingame Intermediate
School. The twelve members of YAC developed this presentation with the desire to be
able to relate to the 8th graders as people who were close to their age; and therefore
could provide a true snap shot of how real and dangerous this issue is among their
peers. The YAC members led large group and breakout discussions on faceless cyber-
bullying, physical attacks and psychological disorders caused by bullying. They gave
first-hand accounts of the effects of bullying; both as an aggressor as well as a victim.
The assembly was well received and the Youth Advisory Committee was asked to
return later in the year to provide training for the 6th and 7th grade students.
Working with the middle school age students in Burlingame has been a goal of the
Youth Advisory Committee for the 2014-2015 school year. They are excited and
inspired by this assembly and look forward to continuing their Anti -Bullying campaign.
