Members of the public may speak about any item not on the agenda. The Ralph M. Brown Act (the
State and local agency open meeting law) prohibits the Commission from acting on any matter that is
not on the agenda. Speakers are asked to fill out a `request to speak' card located on the table by the
door and hand it to staff, although provision of a name, address or other identifying information is
optional. The Chairperson may limit speakers to three minutes each.

DRAFT Meeting Minutes
Regular Meeting on Thursday, July 20, 2017
1. CALL TO ORDER
The duly noticed regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to
order by Chair Baum at 7:00 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave,
Burlingame.
2. ROLL CALL
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Baum, Dito, Milne, Schissler, Palacio and Lewis (arrived after roll call
and approval of minutes)
COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Malekos-Smith
STAFF PRESENT: Parks & Recreation Director Glomstad, Intern Emily Gomes &
Recording Secretary Helley
OTHERS PRESENT: Mike Brunicardi, BYBA
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Milne made a motion to approve the June 15, 2017 minutes. The motion was seconded
by Commissioner Schissler and was approved. 5-0-1. (Lewis arrived after motion)
3. CORRESPONDENCE
None
4. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Emily Gomes, Recreation Intern, introduced herself and presented her project of an Instagram
Scavenger Hunt involving all the city parks. The hunt will be held over a 3 day period, July 281h to July
31St. She has assisted with the Sunday Music in the Park events and will also assist with the Movies in
the Park Series.

a. Commissioner Liaison Assignments
Chair Baum noted that it is helpful to City staff, the non-profit user groups, community groups and the
public to have a liaison commissioner to attend meetings and be a contact for the groups to encourage

communication, potential opportunities for future collaboration and support. The goal would be to
improve overall service to the community by being proactive instead of reactive while working with our
community partners. The following groups will have a liaison assigned to them for the Commissioners
term. The Commissioner will be a contact for the organization, attend board meetings as needed and
keep open communications.

Chair Baum asked the Commissioners to give some thought to which groups they would like to assist
with and be ready to commit at the August 2017 Commission meeting.
b. Capital Improvement Projects Fiscal Year 2017-18
Director Glomstad mention to the Commission the 2017-18 CIP projects:
Murray Field Synthetic Turf
BHS Aquatic Center Deck Replacement and Large Pool Resurfacing
Ray Park Master Plan and Playground Renovations
Washington Park Restroom Replacement
City Parks Master Plan
Playground Resilient Surfacing Repairs
Parks Pathway Repairs
Athletic Field Renovations
7. STAFF AND COMMISSIONER REPORTS
a. Parks & Recreation Department Reports
Director Glomstad reported the Dragons have pulled their proposal to install bleachers at Murray Field.
She also reported that registration for fall recreation classes is on August 91h
The Yankee Doodle Dandy BBQ event on July 191h drew an attendance of 42 seniors.
Parks & Recreation Commission openings, Dito and Lewis, will close on August 181h
b. Commissioners Reports
Chair Baum reported the local revenue one -quarter cent sales tax measure to Maintain Quality of Life
Programs will be on the November 2017 Ballot. He encouraged Commissioners to become familiar
with the measure (Reference July 3, 2017 City Council Meeting) to be able to answer questions that may
come from the general public.

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 8:02 pm.
The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, August
17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Burlingame Recreation Center.

BURLINGAME STAFF REPORT
To: Parks and Recreation Commission
Date: August 17, 2017

Subject: Commissioner Assignments to Validated User Organizations
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Commission Chair Baum finalize the liaison appointments to the
validated user organizations.
BACKGROUND
At the July 20, 2017 Commission meeting, the Commissioners discussed liaisons for the
following organizations, AYSO, BYBA, BGS, Coyotes Lacrosse, St. Catherine, Our Lady of
Angels, and Mercy Burlingame. Chair Baum, with input from the Commissioners, decided to
finalize the appointments at the August 2017 meeting.
DISCUSSION
The following assignments are proposed.
Commissioner Schissler - AYSO
Commissioner Palacio - BYBA
Commissioner Milne — BGS
Commissioner Lewis — Coyotes Lacrosse
Commissioner Malekos-Smith — St. Catherine and Our Lady of Angels
