Subject Burlingame Aquatics Club Annual Report
The City of Burlingame (City) and the San Mateo Union High School District (SMUHSD)
executed a joint -use agreement to renovate and jointly use the Burlingame High School (BHS)
pool facility on September 19, 1997 (a 25 year agreement), which included the swimming pools,
locker rooms and mechanical systems. Since the opening of the Burlingame Aquatic Center on
the BHS campus, the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department offered swim lessons, lap
swim, recreational swim, special events, and pool rentals to the community.
In September of 2011, the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department transitioned the
programming, coordinating, and staffing of community activities to the Burlingame Aquatics Club
(BAC). Along with those activities, the BAC also offers a competitive program consisting of age
group swimming and water polo, masters swimming and water polo for adults.
In August 2016, Sylvia Lam was appointed as the BAC's Executive Director. Executive Director
Lam will be giving an overview of the programming and goals for the BAC.
SLJF2LINGAME STAFF REPORT
To: Parks and Recreation Parks and Recreation Commission
Date: March 16, 2017
From: Margaret Glomstad, Parks and Recreation Director
Subject: Quality of Life Presentation
BACKGROUND
Through careful fiscal management the City of Burlingame has endeavored to maintain the
quality of life services the community values. However, like many cities throughout California,
Burlingame is focused on ensuring the City is well positioned to sustain its fiscal stability and
sustainability through all economic ebbs and flows. At the same time, the City must be diligent
about maintaining aging infrastructure such as its streets, sidewalks, and City facilities that
house City services. Doing so will not only maintain quality of life and property values, but also
address these costly projects and needs before they become more expensive in the future. With
unmet capital infrastructure needs of over $100,000,000, this is no small or easy task.
City staff will be making a presentation to the Parks and Recreation Commission as part of a
larger effort to engage the public as it undertakes this year's budget planning process. The City
of Burlingame is committed to continuing to reflect the community's priorities in the budget
decision -making so the local quality of life is maintained. For more information on the quality of
life survey, including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), please visits
