RESOLVED that a new section to be known as 3-A
shall be added to Rule 4 of the Civil Service Rules and
Regulations of the City of Burlingame which said section
3-A shall read as follows:
SECTION 3-x - PREFERENCE Ti NAR VETERANS iiNi) M EIR WIDOWS:
1. As used herein the term "Veteran" shall be taken
to mean any person who has been mustered into or served
in the Army, or enlisted in, or served in, the Navy or
blarine Corps, or any other branch of the Armed Forces
of the United States, in time of war, and received an
honorable discharge or certificate of honorable service.
2. Veterans with thirty days or more actual service,
and widows of such veterans, when the passing mark has
been attained in any entrance examination, shall be
allowed a credit of rive points in making up the list
of eligibles secured by such examination.
3. In case of promotive examination, when the passing
mark has been attained, a credit of three per cent shall
be allowed to veterans or to widows of such veterans.
4. Veterans who have suffered permanent disability in
line of duty shall be allowed an additional credit of
five points for entrance appointment, provided that
such disability would not prevent the proper performance
of the duties required under such service, or employment,
and provided that such disability is of record in the
United States Veteran's Bureau.
A disabled veteran is defined as one who has been
accorded a disability ratinF of at least ten percent,
at the time of his application for appointment.
5. Claim for regular preference must be made in writing
at time of filing application and must be accompanied by
proof of honorable discharge or honorable active service;
otherwise same shall be deemed waived. Under no circum-
stances may claim for veterans preference in an examination
be made or withdrawn after the list of eligibles for such
examination has been adopted.
6. Veterans should submit with their application proof of
service. (Either original or photostatic copy of dis-
charge or other official record to show period of active
service for thirty days or more.)
7. All employees in the Classified service who left to
engage in the military, naval or aarine service, or any
other branch of the _armed forces of the United States

shall retain and be given credit for all seniority purposes.
8. Widows of veterans should submit with their application:
(a) Proof of Fiusband's right to preference.
(b) Proof of marriage to husband.
(c) Death certificate or other proof of husband's death
(d) Proof that she was not divorces and has not remarrii
The foregoing Resolution was introduced and adopted
at the regular meeting; of the City Council of the City of
Burlingame held on June 18, 1945 by the following vote:
