APPROVING AND ADOPTING SPECIFICATIONS FOR
ONE HIGH PRESSURE FOG AND SQUAD TRUCK: AND
INVITING BIDS FOR SAME
The City Council of the City of Burlingame does hereby
Resolve and Order:
That the specifications for one high Pressure Fog and
Squad Truck, heretofore submitted by the Fire Commission, attached
hereto and made a part of this Resolution be, and the same are
hereby approved and adopted.
It is further Resolved and Ordered that the City Clerk
be authorized and directed to immediately give notice and invite
sealed proposals or bids for the material as in the aforesaid
specifications provided and that all such sealed bids or proposals
shall b e filed with the City Clerk on or before five oIclock, P.M.
August 25, 1948.

SPECIP'ICQTIONS FOR HIGH PRhSSURE FOG AND SQUAD TRUCK
The apparatus shall be of the latest modern type, engineered and
designed to perform the service herein specified and all materials,
workmanship and finish entering into the construction of the apparatus
and its mountings shall conform to the character of the apparatus and
the purpose for which it is intended.
The engine shall have a minimum of 150 brake horsepower with a two
speed axle or a minimum of 175, with a straight axle and shall be
equipped with a 5 speed transmission direct in fifth, synchromesh
shift for all gears except low and reverse, six stud power takeoff
on each side, generator to be high charging; rate at low speed.
1 tachometer on dash with odometer reset and one on operating panel
without reset. Apparatus to be equipped with 10-00x20-12 ply tires.
Dual Battery Hookup.
A dual battery hookup to be made with a quick throw switch, located
in driver's compartment that will start or operate the truck engine
from either or from both batteries.
Batteries will be 12 volt 15 plate, 138 ampere hours and each battery
is to be separately wired to polarized receptacle so either may be
charged without removal from apparatus.
Capacity of fire pump.
The High Pressure Water Pump shall be of positive displacement,
reciprocating type, producing 60 GPM at 800 P S I. It shall be of
the horizontal type, with all gears and bearings running; in oil and
completely enclosed. The design shall be such that plungers and
valves are removable without removing the pump from the frame and
without removing any other portion of the apparatus, except the
hold-down clamps over the cylinder head and valve covers. The
valves and valve seats must be manufactured from stainless steel
and the cylinders must be porcelain lined. The valve seats must

be ground fit into the pump without gaskets. The pump must be
equipped with a 1000 pound pressure gauge, with a dampener, and an
adjustable relief valve sufficiently sensitive to provide positive
handling of pressures without difficulty by by-passing water into
the tank, instead of the suction line of the pump.
The pump shall be driven from power take -off and coupled so that it
can be operated while the truck is in motion.
The capacities herein specified are defined as capacities at the Dump
and the pump shall have a volume sufficient to deliver not less than
its capacity of 60 GPM at 600 PSI at the nozzles of two 200-foot
lengths of 3/4" ID high pressure hose with 15/64" nozzle tips on each
gun, with both guns open to full capacity simultaneously.
Water Tank.
The water tank shall be not less than 400 gallon capacity, properly
baffled two ways, and of such thickness of material as to withstand
rough service. Tank shall be preferably constructed of not less than
10 gauge copper bearing steel, coated inside. Tank shall be provided
with a filler opening not less than 5 inches in diameter, with easilv
removable cap, and with a manhole of same material, of sufficient size
to permit easy access for cleaning and painting of interior of tank.
The complete tank unit must be constructed and mounted in such a
manner as to permit removal without disturbing; body panels, reel
structure, rails, or other parts, except water connections.
Body -
The body shall conform to sketch submitted.
Hose Reels.
Equipment shall be provided as follows, and shall be of the best

quality in workmanship and material of its class, suitable to the
service of fire fighting equipment.
Two Hose Reels with a capacity of 200 feet each of high pressure
3/4 inch hose; reels to have collapsible hubs and be equipped with
brakes, and with a crank for rewinding the hose. Hose connection to
reel must be Chiksan swivel or equal -- no packing gland or packing
adjusti:ent connection will be accepted. Roller ,F,uide for each reel,
and top roller in center between reels, as well as spools at end of
rollers to facilitate unreeling of hose in any direction.
High Pressure Hand Valves must be supplied in the discharge line
between the pump and reels; valves to be located on the outside of
the pump compartment within easy reach of the operator.
A Strainer must be supplied and installed between the tank and pump,
made accessible, and easily removed for cleaning.
Provide a Shut-off Valve between the tank and pump with outside hand
control.
Provide an outside 2'—a" National Standard Thread Suction Hose Connection.
Furnish four hundred feet of 3/4" I.D. High Pressure Hose in lengths
of not more than 200 feet to each hose reel.
Furnish two, two -hand Fog Guns, one hand to operate the trigger and
trigl,er lock; the other hand to make the adjustments of the fog
pattern, as well as the protecting; spray.
Ladders and Pike Poles.
Equip truck with one extension ladder of Douglas Fir, to extend
approximately 24 feet, mounted on suitable bracket, with quick acting
holding clamps.
Furnish one Roof Ladder of Douglas Fir, with hooks, approximately
13 feet long, nested into the extension ladder.
Furnish one 10-foot Pike Pole, mounted.

Tools.
Furnish one Fire Department Pick -head lixe in suitable holder.
Furnish one 43-inch Crowbar.
Furnish tools and kit to service Pump.
Spanner Wrenchep.
Tool equipment for the truck as standard to the manufacturer.
Provide two Ruby blinker lights mounted on top of Cab.
Provide one universally adjusted Spotlight on top of Cab with control
from inside of cab.
Provide and install two rear Pick-up Lights with universal adjustment.
Provide two combination Stop and Tail Lights.
Provide one Red Light Flasher -Siren combination.
Provide one rear Battery Charging Plug.
Equip front of truck with two nooks for towing, and provide towin:
eyes on rear of truck.
Provide Tool Compartment and miscellaneous compartments in space
available within the rear body structure. Aluminum Step -plates on
Fenders.
All enclosed compartments for equipment, and the body and chassis as
a unit shall be Painted, Lettered, and Striped as desired.
GUARANTEE
The manufacturer will be required to Suarantee that the condition of
said apparatus, delivered under these requirements at the expiration
of three (3) years from date of service will be in as good condition
as when delivered to said City of Burlingame, with the exception of
tires, reasonable wear of the apparatus and its working parts, and
defects caused by accidents. The manufacturer shall agree to repair,
replace and install any and all parts of the said apparatus and

equipment that may prove defective during said three (3) years of
guarantee in strict compliance with these requirements and in a
manner satisfactory to the Chief of the Burlingame Fire Department.
The manufacturer shall further submit with his bid, an additional
guarantee or warranty covering proponent parts of the motor, the
power plant, and the chassis in general.
The manufacturer shall furnish two (2) complete specifications of the
type of High Pressure Fog and Squad Truck to be furnished together
with drawings and other literature.
The manufacturer shall furnish two (2) complete specifications
including one certified horsepower curve and one pump performance
chart.
Each bidder shall be required to submit a guaranteed delivery date.
The successful bidder will be required to post a bond of at least 30%
of the bid conditioned on strict performance of contract.
NOTICE INVITIIJG SEALED PROPOSALS
Pursuant to the specifications approved by
Resolution No. 32-48, adopted on August 9, 1948s by the City
Council of the City of Burlingame, and pursuant to said
Resolution directing; this notice, said Council hereby invites
sealed proposals or bids for one High Pressure Fog and Squad
Truck.
Each bid shall be in accordance with spocifications
and other contract document now on file with the City Clerk at
the City hall, Burlingame, California, where they may be examined
and copies obtained.
The City Council reserves the right to reject any or
all bids or waive any informality in a bid.
Said sealed proposals or bids shall be delivered to the
City Clerk at the City Hall in Burlingame not later than 5 o'clocks
p.m., on Y,u'-ust 25, 194'.
Bids will be publicly opened and examined on Thursday,
August 26, 1948.
