HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 017-1948RESOLUTION NO. +48 DECLARING RESULT OF ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF BURLINGAME, COUNTY OF SALT YATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, APRIL 13, 1948. WHEREAS, a General Election was held in the City of Burlingame, on Tuesday, the 13th day of April, 1948, as required by law; and, WHEREAS, it appears that notice of said election was duly and regularly established; that election officers were appointed and election supplies furnished, and in all respects said election was held and conducted and the votes were received. and canvassed, and the returns thereof made, determined and declared in the time, form and manner as required by the law of the State of California, providing for regular municipal elections in cities of the sixth class; and, WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Burlingame, duly convened at the Council Chambers on Tuesday, the 20th day of April, 1948, to canvass the returns of said election and install the newly elected officers, and as a result of such canvass the said City Council finds that the number of votes cast, the persons for whom such votes were cast, and all other matters re- quired by law, are as hereinafter set forth; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS IEREBY RESOLVED, as follows: 1. That the said election held in the City of Burlingame on Tuesday, the 13th day of April, 1948, was conducted in the time, manner and form required by the law of the State of California governing elections in cities of the sixth class. 2. That the total number of votes cast in said consolidated precincts was 5,276. 4. That the canvass of the votes cast in said City of Burlingame for the office of City Councilman, City Clerk -Assessor and City Treasurer was held in accordance with the order of the Council and in accordance with law. 5. That all duly registered voters, expecting to be absent from their respective election precincts, and who procured ballots from the City Clerk, and cast said ballots as required by law, and the City Clerk having transmitted the absent voters ballots to the precinct boards of the precincts in which the absent voters respectively reside, and the said precinct boards having complied with all of the requirements of law, and there being no challenge or protest, were voted and counted as required by lavr. 8. That a canvass of the votes on all of the aforesaid three propositions was duly and regularly held. 9. That at said General Iaiunicipal Election held in the City of Burlingame on April 13, 19489 the following persons were elected to the following offices respectively: ALLAN F. HUNT was elected a member of the City Council for a term of four years, from and after Tuesday, April 20, 1948. DAN R. LOVE, JR., was elected a member of the City Council for a term of four years, from and after Tuesday, April 20, 1948. JOHN J. HARPER, was elected a member of the City Council for a term of four years, from and after Tuesday, April 20, 1948. HERBERT K. WHITE, was elected City Clerk -Assessor for a term of four years, from and after Tuesday, April 20, 1948. IDA H. COE, was elected City Treasurer for a term of four years, from and after Tuesday, April 202 1948. 10. That more than two thirds of the qualified electors voting on each of said proposition hereinafter set forth, voted in favor thereof. That each of said proposition was for the issuance of bonds for the purpose of incurring indebtedness for municipal improvements under the provisions of the statutes of 1901 of the State of California, Page 27, as amended. That each of said proposition was adopted and carried. The said are proposition as follows: PROPOSITION NO. 1 Shall the City of Burlingame incur a bonded indebtedness lin the principal amount of 4170,000.00 in accordance with the 1provisions of the ordinance calling the election at which this proposition is submitted, for the object and purpose of acquiring; constructing and completing improvements to the facilities of the Fire Department of the City of Burlingame, in the following respects; the acquisition, construction and completion of a now fire station to house equipment and department personnel, to be located in a section of the City of Burlingame north of Broadway; the purchase and acquisition of fire equipment; the construction and completion of a drill tower; the extension, construction, repair and completion of improvements to the present fire alarm system of the City of Burlingame? PELOPOSITION NO. 2 Shall the City of Burlingame incur a bonded indebtedness in the principal amount of 2155,000.00 in accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance calling the election at which this proposition_ -is submitted, for the object and purpose of con- structing, completing and equipping a recreational and Commun' u._ty Center Building in 'Vashington Park (formerly Guns t property) ; the acquisition, purchase and installation of equipment necessary for the complete develcpment of recreational facilities) in Kay Park, and the construction and completion of a service building in the Public Park in Burlingame Village to be used _n connection with recreat °_oral facilities? 11, The City Clerk is hereby directed to complete and deliver to each of the persons elected, a certificate of election signed by hin and duly authenticated. He shall also impose the constitutional oath of office and have each person so elected subscribe thereto, I. Herbert K.
