HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 083-1949RESOLUTION NO. 83-49 URGING STUDY OF RAILROAD GRADE CROSSINGS BY STATE OF CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Burlingame has frequently, and lately with more emphasis, had its attention directed to the urgent necessity of making an intensive study of railroad crossing accidents along the San Francisco Peninsula; and WHEREAS, the said City Council feel that the public (welfare and safety of the people demands immediate action for the purpose of overcoming useless loss of life and destruction of property because of such accidents; and WHEREAS, the cost of a study, research, and final report and recommendation is not a matter of local concern, but is far. -reaching and extends to the benefit and advantage of all the people of the State and even to the nation; and WHEREAS, this Council believes and urges to the attention of the legislature of the State of California the necessity of initiating such steps as may be necessary to eliminate grade crossings in the State of California; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Burlingame hereby urges the legislature of the State of California to announce a policy to eliminate grade crossings in the State at the earliest possible time] that a study of the situation in the State be made at once, and that the legislature appropriate and make available such necessary funds for immediate action; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Honorable Harry L. Parkman, State Senator, the Honorable Richard J. Dolwig,State Assemblyman, and to such other members of the State Legislature and the Congress of the United States as the gravity of the situation and the magnitude of the project demands.
