1. SUGGESTED BILLBOARD ORDINANCE.
A communication dated February 10, 1956, was read from the City
Council requesting that the Commission prepare an ordinance prohibiting
the installation of billboards bordering the Freeway areas. Immediate
attention was urged in view of the construction currently under way n
the Millsdale Industrial Park area.
The Planning Consultant presented to the Commission a draft of an or-
dinance pegulating the construction of billboards, which was approved
by the members with the revision that all permits issued for billboards
shall be subject to the final approval of the Commission.
The Planning Consultant and the City Attorney were requested to draw the
final draft of the ordinance, and it was thereafter moved by Com-
missioner Mitchell that the Commission accept the ordinance as presented
and recommend its approval to the City Council, seconded by Commissioner
Kindig and unanimously carried on roll call of members.
2. %TDENā¢ING OF BROADWAY._
The Chair announced that this was the date set for the meetine with the
officers and members of t e -Broadway Development Association to discuss
the traffic Aarkina problem on Broadway.
The Chair referred to the communication of the A.V.R. Realty Company
suggesting that Broadway be widened 2-1/2 to 5 feet by a relocation of
the curb along the first two blocks on the south side of Broadway, at
City expense.
Reference was made to the report of the City Engineer and the Planning
Consultant -summarizing that parallel parking on one side of the street,
rather than curb relocation, will provide wider lanes at no cost except
to relocate meters and repaint lines.
A communication dated February 13, 1956, was read from Mr. Wallace
Jones, president of the Broadway Development Association, protesting
any plan for parallel parking on Broadway.
Mr. Joseph Aloise, merchant on Broadway, addressed the Commission
in behalf of the Broadway Development Association. Mr. Aloise
stated it was the opinion of Broadway merchants that an additional
2 feet, on each side of the street, could be gained if the angle
of the present parking spaces were changed, and the Commission was
urged to give consideration to this request.
The City Engineer reported that a similar request had been made some
time previously and a study made at that time.
It was thereafter agreed to hold the matter for further discussion
at a later date and the City Engineer was requested to submit his
file on the previous survey.
