Brown to Mattock COMMISSION Study Meeting March ll, 1954. Others' Present Mayor Simonds City Engineer Marr Planning Consultant Mann An adjourned session of the Regular February meeting was opened to discuss Mills Estate #3 Map, which had been revised according to re- quest previously made by Mr. Mann. The revised snap showed widening of Trousdale Avenue to 84 feet, and so much of Murchison Drive as lies within the City of Burlingame as would make that street of sim- ilar width. This map also showed certain other street changes-whi.ch had been requested in order to improve the street pattern in the area concerned. At this point Mr. H. Jay Burns of the Burlingame Elementary School Board requested that the Commission defer any further action on any tentative map until the school board had selected school sites. ir. Burns explained the Millbrae and Burlingame Elementary School site problem, and illustrated on a map an approximate desired location for two schools. Mr. Lee Ham of Wilsey & Co. stated that he would work on the details regarding the school sites, now that he knows their location, and will submit another map accordingly. No representative of the Burlingame Recreation Commission was present. The Secretary read a communication from Division 'IV of the State Div- ision of Highways in which it was stated, among other things, that "the cost of electrical installation and signals :is divided between the local jurisdiction and State in proportion to the number of legs of the intersection in each". The suggestion that the developer pay the City share of this cost was made. Mr. TWeisenberg of the Trousdale Construction Corp. stated in answer, that he had no authority to com- mit the developer on this proposal, but that he would talk of the proposition with his associates. The Commission deferred any action on the map until such matters as recreational area, school sites, traffic light system and "benching" had been th)roughly developed and presented.. A final map on Mills Estate #1 was not accepted, pending further con- sultation between Wilsey & Company, the City Engineer and the City Planning Consultant; the latter two officials stating that certain re- visions were necessary prior to their granting approval. The adjourned session of the regular meeting was closed at 9:40 P. M. The March study meeting of the Commission was opened at 9:41 P. M., with the same officials in attendance. The request of, Theo. G. Meyer and Sons to abandon a part of Valdivia Way was discussed by Mr. Theodore K. Meyer, Vice -President, and the members of the Commission. Mr. Meyer outlined the desirability of the residents concerned in that section of the city to have the "dead-end" of that street abandoned on account of the probability of increased traffic through winding streets in that area, should it be made an art- erial street. Mr. gam of Wilsey & Co. engineers, for the Trousdale Construction Company, stated that they had no objection to the closing of that portion of Valdivia Way inasmuch as they contemplated tying in a street running generally east from Skyline Boulevard vicinity, into Trousdale Drive. Mr. Ham also stated that the developer of Mills Estate is considering possibly two street outlets south of the proposed east -west street, and running generally toward Hillside Drive. The commission was informally in favor of deferring any action on this proposal until a map of that area was submitted by the Trousdale Con- struction Corporation; but, on advice of the City Planning Consultant who stated that "street abandonment" was a matter for the City Councii to decide, Mr. Meyer was advised to make formal application for his proposal to the City Council. A request from W. L. Burkdall relative to revision for the resub- division of Lots 19-20, Block 4, Burlingame Park No. 4, washeld for the regular March meeting. The request of Captain B. I. Bearint, U. S. Army, to operate an animal shelter on Bayshore Highway, will be considered at a public hearing on March 25th. Mr. W. J. OtConnell, a citizen, stated that the proposal of the School Board in selecting a site adjacent to the present Burlingame Intermed- iate School, and the developers' plan for extension of Marco Polo Way into Mills Estate, poses a traffic problem concerning RayPark. Mr. O'Connell urges that these proposals reopens the question of traffic pattern around Quesada Way and Marco Polo Way, and stated that resi- dents of Ray Park, being particularly concerned, through their Improve- ment club, should be asked their opinion, or objection, if any. Mr. James Himmel introduced a sketch of Millsdale #1, showing that area to be an "island" entirely surrounded by commercial or industrial zon- ing. Mr. Himmel also introduced a paper entitled "Minimum Design Con- siderations and Studies for Mills Estate Maps". The meeting adjourned at 11:10 P. M. Respectfully submitted CHARLES W. ROOTH SECRETARY
