MEMORANDUM

Re: Monthly Report
Parks Division
1) Tree planting is occurring this month throughout the City.
2) Sycamore pruning continues west of ECR and north of Sanchez.
3) Playground Committee met and made initial decisions on the scope of the Washington Park playground
renovation project.
4) Arbor Day ceremony will be at Bayside Park on Friday, March 7. Redwoods, partially funded by a donation
from Rotary, will be planted in the open area between fields 2 and 3.
5) Volunteers are completing work on new bullpen fencing at the Washington Park baseball field. Parks crews cut
out sod are filled the area with decomposed granite.
6) Work on the restrooms at Ray Park and Cuernavaca Park is ongoing. The project at Ray includes the addition
of a new store building, a portion of which will be used by Girls Softball; Accessiblrestrooms are
available at both locations during construction.
7) Overseeding and spot sod replacement is growing in well at the Soccer Center. Field will open for play in
March.
8) Parks Division has debated filling in more of the open dirt (originally grass) area at the Dog Park with wood
chips. Some users support and a few object. Feedback from the Commission would be appreciated.
9) The Parks Division had its annual pesticide audit by the County. There were no problems with our operation.
Bob Disco supervises the program. Annual training of all Division employees who apply pesticides preceded
the audit.
Recreation Division
1) Seniors: Movie Festival (17 participants), Emeritus Lecture (15), California History (30) and Current World
Affairs (averages 25)
2) Teens: Winter Camp (29), Open Gym (60), Boreal Ski Trip (32)
3) PreSehool: New session of preschool at the Village began with all classes full. Strong registration in
Wonderful Ones (88), Half Moon Music (129) and My First Art (70)
4) Aquatics: Held the first committee meeting of the core user group.
5) BIS: 26 7 h/8a` grade basketball teams (260 players). Basketball coaches in this program donated a large number
of basketballs to the program. Coordinator Dave Barry secured a $5,000 grant from the BIS Student Council

6) Special Events: Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony included support from City departments (police, fire, public
works, parks and recreation). Collaboration with the Burlingame School District & Crystal Springs. Sponsors
include McCune Sound and House of Coffee. Positive feedback received by all who attended.
7) Fall Classes: 367 classes conducted, with 4,025 participants.
